Canon has introduced the LX-D400, a new full-color 4-inch label printer engineered to support high-speed, on-demand label production across packaging, retail, manufacturing and logistics applications.
The launch reflects growing industry demand for flexible digital label printing solutions capable of supporting shorter product cycles, faster inventory updates and increasingly customized packaging requirements. According to Canon, the LX-D400 has been designed to combine print quality, operational efficiency and workflow integration in a compact production platform.
High-Speed Full-Color Label Production
The LX-D400 is capable of producing full-color labels at speeds of up to 13 inches per second, enabling high-volume production while maintaining high-resolution print quality. The printer uses dye-based ink technology and supports a broad range of media, including paper, film, synthetic poly and pre-cut die-cut labels.
Canon stated that the system is intended to help businesses improve supply chain responsiveness while enhancing branding and packaging presentation through vivid color reproduction and detailed graphics.
The printer also incorporates an advanced image-processing driver and color correction suite designed to optimize texture and color accuracy for retail and packaging applications.
Integrated Workflow and Smart Operation
To improve usability and production visibility, the LX-D400 features a 4.3-inch LCD touch panel that provides operators with real-time access to ink levels, media status and machine settings directly from the home screen.
Canon has additionally developed the printer to support more connected and data-driven label production environments. The LX-D400 can be paired with an optional UHF RFID module, enabling simultaneous label printing and RFID data encoding for inventory management and traceability applications.
The integration of RFID functionality is expected to support sectors increasingly adopting smart packaging and automated inventory systems.
Responding to Evolving Label Printing Demands
The launch comes as the label printing industry continues shifting toward shorter production runs, greater product customization and faster turnaround requirements. Industry discussions within the printing community have highlighted increasing demand for flexible in-house color label production that can support branding, packaging differentiation and supply chain agility.
The LX-D400 also reflects broader market growth in digital label production technologies as businesses seek alternatives to traditional pre-printed label inventory systems.
Expanding Canon’s Digital Label Printing Portfolio
The LX-D400 expands Canon’s growing industrial and commercial label printing portfolio, following the earlier introduction of the LG-P800 8-inch pigment-based label printer. While the LG-P800 focuses on wider-format industrial label applications, the LX-D400 targets compact, high-speed full-color label production for dynamic manufacturing and packaging environments.
As packaging and labeling operations increasingly prioritize speed, flexibility and customization, Canon’s latest innovation demonstrates how digital label printing technologies are evolving to support more responsive and connected production workflows.
