Mondi and Dreco Introduce Detergent Packaging with 50% Recycled Content

Share:

Global packaging and paper company Mondi has partnered with Dreco to launch a new powder detergent packaging solution containing 50% post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic, marking a major step toward circular packaging in the FMCG sector.

The new solution, developed using Mondi’s re/loop PillowBag technology, has been designed specifically for moisture-sensitive products such as powder detergents. Despite the high recycled content, the packaging maintains strong moisture protection, durability, print quality, and shelf appeal.

The packaging is also designed for recycling and is compatible with existing polyolefin mechanical recycling streams. Mondi confirmed that the solution uses ISCC PLUS-certified mass balance certification to ensure transparency and traceability of recycled materials across the supply chain.

The launch comes as brands across Europe prepare for upcoming EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) requirements, which are expected to mandate at least 35% recycled content in this category of plastic packaging by 2030. With 50% PCR content already achieved, the new packaging positions Dreco ahead of future regulatory targets.

The new detergent packaging has already been introduced across retail shelves in Germany, showcasing how high-performance flexible packaging can successfully combine sustainability, recyclability, and consumer convenience.
