Alpha Ecoplast Commissions Advanced Starlinger PET Bottle-to-Bottle Recycling System in Gujarat

In October 2024, Alpha Ecoplast Pvt. Ltd., a member of the Alpha Group, inaugurated a state-of-the-art Starlinger recoSTAR PET 215 HC iV+ bottle-to-bottle recycling system at their new facility near Kosamba, Gujarat.

The recoSTAR PET 215 HC iV+ features Starlinger’s largest single extruder, achieving an impressive output of up to 2,700 kg of bottle-grade pellets per hour. Equipped with advanced technology such as a pre-drying unit, high-vacuum degassing, continuous filtration, and an underwater pelletizer, the system ensures exceptional efficiency and decontamination. The viscoSTAR SSP reactor further enhances pellet viscosity and food-contact safety, adhering to the FIFO principle for consistent quality.

The formulation of chemicals to consumer goods often involves the handling of high viscous materials. The ingestion and dispersion of liquids or powders into the viscous bulk is preferably done by the EKATO PARAVISC impeller. This impeller can be combined with wall scrapers or high shear impellers on a separate shaft for flexibility of the operation and maximum homogeneity of the products.

Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa reducing plastic with new 2L returnable bottles

These new returnable bottles can be reused up to 14 times. Thereafter they can be recycled and made into new bottles. The rollout is being piloted in the Mandela Bay and Border-Kei districts in the Eastern Cape and, if successful, is expected to be rolled out to the rest of the country.

The returnable bottles are made of PET plastic and are labelled with a new paper label, with ‘RETURNABLE’ appearing in green on the front of the bottle.

“Using the Formifor capabilities from our plant in Roeselare, combined with the lamination technique in Steinfeld, we are able to create finished mono material laminates,” explains Dries Devlaminck, R&D Engineer, Berry bpi.

The high gloss finish of the film delivers a superior look and feel to further enhance brand image and on-shelf presence. In addition, the film’s excellent stiffness and strength enables stand-up pouches to be produced.

Labels with built-in printed battery

The promotional bottles, feature labels with a built-in printed battery, once the labels are squeezed it completes a circuit which lights up the OLED of one of the two character's lightsaber weapons.

There are two bottle designs, featuring main characters Rey and Kylo Ren, with lightsabers that light up anytime you touch the labels. The effect is made possible by Inuru Smart Surface Technology using sustainable OLEDs that can be printed at high volume and low cost.
