Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad), India, 23 July 2026. Compliance has overtaken cost as the deciding factor in how foodservice brands and distributors source packaging. With the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation applying from 12 August 2026, and PFAS and single-use-plastic rules tightening across the US, UK and Gulf, Ecofy, an Indian compostable moulded-fibre foodservice packaging manufacturer, is expanding exports to meet the shift.
From a 150,000 sq ft single-site facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad), Maharashtra, Ecofy presses compostable sugarcane-bagasse plates, bowls, clamshells, trays and cups, and ships them by the container-load to more than 30 countries via Nhava Sheva (JNPT). The plant runs to BRCGS Packaging Materials Grade A standard, and the products are PFAS-free, tested across CIPET, SGS, Intertek and FDA. See Ecofy's product range and its certifications.
Where compostable packaging was once a sustainability preference, it is increasingly a documented procurement requirement. Buyers in regulated markets now request composting certificates, PFAS or total-organic-fluorine test reports and food-contact evidence before they order.
"Buyers used to ask about price first. Now the first question is whether we can prove the product is compliant," said Sameer Kulkarni, who leads compliance and sustainability at Ecofy. "That shift, driven by the 2026 rules, is what is moving procurement from plastic to documented compostable fibre."
Ecofy works with distributors, importers, foodservice operators and brand owners, offering factory-direct and private-label supply plus the compliance documentation that regulated markets demand. It also runs a free compliance-checker tool showing which bans, taxes and certifications apply by market.
Founded in 2018, Ecofy is positioning its India-based, factory-direct model to help global buyers secure certified, plastic-free foodservice packaging as the 2026 rules take effect. More at ecofy.io.
