Lush has consistently led the way in ethical practice with their fresh, vegetarian homemade cosmetics. The brand has utilised schemes in the past to encourage their shoppers to recycle and reuse, often offering rewards in these circumstances.

The packaging will be sent to Lush’s Greenhub in Dorset where it will be sorted and processed before being sent to its UK recycling partners to be turned into new black Lush pots or for use in other industries.

Nationwide, food and packaging containers together account for almost 45% of landfill materials in the U.S. That’s not all takeout waste, but with the online food delivery market growing—it’s expected to be worth $200 billion by 2025—it’s easy to see how single use waste from food delivery adds up, especially during a pandemic that’s forcing more people to order in.

Cosmetics and personal care packaging is long overdue for a makeover, and new beauty and wellness brand Ace of Air is ready to kick things off. Launched on Jan. 28 — and co-founded by model Petra Nemcova — Ace of Air introduces a new way to think about sustainable packaging. Rather than creating jars or bottles that can simply be recycled, the new brand offers its products in "rentable" packaging, gamifying this further with a points system that rewards sending empties back and other planet-friendly deeds.

Blond created reusable and refillable packaging that is both long-lasting and 100% recyclable at the end of its life cycle. Consumers can buy their essentials without any packaging waste by using the reusable pots. They then can be decanted, stored and later collected and washed by Dizzie.

Looking at the principles of the circular economy, Blond carried out holistic research into the packaging landscape and worked with Dizzie to design a packaging system that would ultimately save warehouse space and reduce the carbon footprint of deliveries.

The concentrate in each refill packet reconstitutes, with water, to make 7.5 fluid ounces of foaming hand wash. The refills come in three formulations: Aloe-Scented, Lavender-Scented, and Sea Breeze-Scented. Each refill carton contains two packets.

According to Dial, each packet uses 95% less plastic than a single-use, 7.5-oz Dial Foaming Hand Wash bottle. In addition, the packets are recyclable through TerraCycle.

The refills also help reduce transportation-related carbon emissions by 85%, based on truck weight and product uses per truck.

With a Covid-inspired surge in home deliveries and wasteful packaging over the past year, electronics firm Samsung chose to launch an eco-friendly home renovation project ahead of the United Nations’ World Environment Day.

Released on June 4, the campaign was devised by Edelman, which was instructed to find a way people could rethink how to reuse their packaging waste. The result was a 30-second campaign with Amsterdam-based paper artist AJ Smith, known as Papersmith, who explored the creative reuse of Samsung’s Eco-Packaging.
