Koehler Paper, part of the Koehler Group, has partnered with POS printer manufacturer SEWOO to certify its thermal paper grades KT 48 PF and Blue4est® N Lite for multiple SEWOO printer models, marking another step toward sustainable point-of-sale (POS) printing systems.
The certification covers SEWOO’s SLK T12, T20, T21, T32, and the high-volume SLK TS400 series, confirming full compatibility with both conventional and eco-friendly thermal papers.
Extensive Testing Confirms Print Quality and Durability
Before approval, both KT 48 PF and Blue4est® N Lite underwent several months of testing across key POS performance parameters:
- print clarity and contrast
- barcode readability
- logo and image reproduction
- durability under varied operating conditions
Results showed the papers deliver consistent, high-quality output and reliable performance in daily retail use. SEWOO’s advanced print-head control technology was also found to minimize wear while maintaining stable printing at high volumes.
“With this SEWOO certification, we now have another invaluable partner and are taking an important step toward sustainable POS systems with Blue4est®,” said Sebastian Früh, Director of the Thermal Paper Division at Koehler Paper. “It demonstrates our commitment to solutions that combine printing quality, versatility, and immediate usability.”
Plug-and-Play Integration for Sustainable Receipts
A key advantage highlighted in the certification is seamless integration.
SEWOO’s SLK-series printers automatically detect Blue4est® blue thermal paper without requiring configuration or firmware changes.
This enables retailers and POS operators to transition to sustainable receipts without hardware modification or workflow disruption. SEWOO’s global sales and support network further supports deployment across retail, hospitality, and logistics environments.
“Customers expect technologies that are reliable and future-proof,” said Seomun Dong-Gun, SEWOO representative. “This certification delivers an easily implemented solution that supports the shift toward more sustainable POS systems.”
From Conventional to Sustainable: Thermal Paper Options
Koehler Paper’s POS portfolio spans traditional and eco-designed thermal papers:
KT 48 PF
- established white thermal paper
- high print reliability
- proven POS performance
Blue4est® N Lite
- free of chemical color developers
- recyclable and disposable as wastepaper
- food-contact approved
- print durability >35 years
- distinctive blue appearance signaling sustainability
Unlike conventional thermal paper, Blue4est® uses a purely physical imaging process: heat from the print head collapses micro-bubbles in a functional layer, revealing a black layer beneath—eliminating chemical developers typically used in thermal coatings.
Advancing Sustainable POS Ecosystems
The joint certification expands compatibility between sustainable receipt media and mainstream POS hardware, addressing a key barrier to adoption: printer interoperability.
As retailers face growing regulatory and consumer pressure to reduce hazardous substances and improve recyclability, certified solutions like Blue4est® enable lower-impact receipt printing without operational trade-offs.
With SEWOO integration now validated, Koehler Paper continues to position Blue4est® as a ready-to-deploy alternative for global POS applications.
