Premium sausage producer Heck Food has partnered with Yorkshire Packaging Systems (YPS) to launch its latest product, Sausage Rashers, using the innovative LIDTEC SOFT 200 ultra-thin lidding film. The packaging upgrade promises not only eye-catching aesthetics but also top-tier performance in food protection and sustainability.
The Sausage Rashers, now available via Heck’s online store and in Sainsbury’s supermarkets from May 1st, are gluten-free and presented in a modern tray format. Each tray is securely sealed with the ultra-thin LIDTEC film and enclosed in a recyclable cardboard sleeve an approach that enhances product visibility while supporting eco-conscious packaging goals.
The LIDTEC SOFT 200 is just 25 microns thick, yet boasts an impressive array of benefits tailored for modern food packaging. It offers an exceptional high-barrier seal, utilizing EVOH technology to significantly extend shelf life under Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) conditions. Its anti-fog finish and high-gloss clarity ensure that products are displayed attractively on shelves, while also maintaining freshness and preventing contamination.
“The LIDTEC film is unique in combining so many desirable characteristics for food producers in one material,” said Glyn Johnson, Managing Director at YPS. “It’s easy to use in production, delivers superior optics, and supports shelf appeal all while reducing packaging weight and waste.”
One of the most notable features is the film’s tight, shrink-fit seal, which not only secures the product within the tray but also creates a sleek, wrinkle-free finish. This enables vertical stacking, optimizing shelf space and drawing consumer attention through its clean presentation. The reduced film thickness also allows for lighter trays, giving the product a ‘protruded’ appearance making servings look more generous and premium.
Available in three levels of shrinkage, the LIDTEC film can be customized to avoid tray distortion, offering manufacturers flexibility and precision across a variety of packaging formats. It performs reliably on a wide range of sealing equipment, making it a versatile choice for production facilities of all scales.
Additional features include:
- Leak-proof, hermetic seals to protect against discolouration and product slippage
- Microwave and freezer compatibility for consumer convenience
- Recyclability to LDPE Level 04, aligning with growing demands for sustainable packaging
- Custom printability for enhanced branding and product information display
The launch of LIDTEC SOFT 200 in Heck’s new line underscores a growing trend in the food sector: the move toward high-performance, environmentally conscious packaging that doesn’t compromise on product visibility or protection.
“We think the result for Heck Sausages looks great and we can’t wait to try them!” added Johnson, reflecting on the successful rollout.
With packaging playing an increasingly critical role in both consumer perception and environmental impact, Heck’s adoption of LIDTEC lidding film positions the brand at the forefront of sustainable, shelf-smart packaging innovation.
