Groninger Launches Largest Expansion in Company History with New Assembly Hall and Office Complex

The groninger Group is entering a new phase of growth: A major construction project is underway at the company’s Crailsheim campus, featuring a 54,000-square-foot assembly hall and an adjacent three-story, 21,500-square-foot office complex. Covering more than 75,000 square feet in total and backed by an investment of over €30 million, the project marks the largest single investment in the company’s 45-year history.

This milestone comes just four years after groninger’s last major expansion, when a new logistics center was inaugurated in 2021 following a €20-million investment.

Responding to Sustained Growth

“We’re fortunate to be experiencing steady growth. Our order volume remains strong, even though the intense momentum of recent years has eased somewhat,” says Jens Groninger, CEO of the groninger Group. “Our capacities are increasingly reaching their limits. The need for additional production and office space remains high.”

To meet this demand, groninger officially began construction at the end of June. Earthworks are now in progress, with steel construction scheduled to begin in January 2026. The company expects the new buildings to be completed and operational by mid-2027.

A Future-Ready Assembly Hall

The new assembly hall is designed with flexibility at its core, enabling the space to adapt seamlessly to evolving production processes and varying workloads. Other top priorities include:

  • Energy efficiency
  • Sustainable construction
  • Employee comfort
  • Smart infrastructure
  • Optimized intralogistics

“Production space is a valuable resource. It must be used wisely,” notes Jens Groninger. “Today, efficient intralogistics are essential—even in production. Short distances, reliable just-in-time parts supply, and streamlined material flows are key to our success.”

He also highlights the increasing scale of the lines produced in Crailsheim: “The pharmaceutical lines we build are getting larger, stretching for many meters.”

Sustainability as a Guiding Principle

More than an expansion project, the new facility reflects groninger’s long-term commitment to sustainability and responsible growth.

“I’m a father of four. I want to leave behind a livable world for my children and grandchildren,” says Jens Groninger. “We don’t think in short-term cycles, but in generations—and our construction projects should reflect that.”

Sustainability goals are built into every aspect of the project. Michaela Groninger, architect and coordinator for all company construction projects, emphasizes that the building will exceed standard legal requirements.

“For us, it’s a self-imposed commitment,” she explains. “We aim for solutions that secure the company’s future while protecting the environment.”

Key sustainability features include:

  • Heat pump systems for energy-efficient heating and cooling
  • Large stratified thermal storage tanks
  • On-site energy generation, with plans for a rooftop photovoltaic system
  • A building technology concept designed for maximum climate efficiency

“The entire building is engineered to reduce environmental impact while providing optimal working conditions for our employees,” says Michaela Groninger.

Building a Responsible Future—At Home in Crailsheim

Once completed, the new assembly hall and office complex will stand as a symbol of groninger’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and its roots in Crailsheim.

More than a production facility, the project represents the company’s vision for long-term, responsible growth—shaping the future while honoring the legacy that built it.
