The paper packaging, which replaces the plastic film wrapping that is typically difficult to recycle at home, is 100% recyclable and FSC certified.

The toilet paper and kitchen sheets themselves are made of 100% recycled paper. Additionally, the production process for both the rolls and packaging uses fully renewable energy at the retailer’s local sites across the UK.

Morrisons’ new jumbo kitchen rolls retail at £3 for a two-pack, whilst the nine-pack toilet roll costs £3.50. Both products are now available in store and online.

The approach was invented by Dr Bushra Al-Duri, from the University’s School of Chemical Engineering and further developed during a collaborative project with Stopford.

According to Shawpack, the 4SS pouch machine is particularly useful in the manufacturing of pre-made pouches for manual packaging lines. The machine can pack flat products to a maximum thickness of 5mm and up to 600 x 340 mm.

In addition, Shawpack 4SS can apparently make 3-side sealed pouches with the remaining side open, allowing medical device customers to produce pre-made packs that are manually filled and sealed.

Indonesia is the world's second-largest contributor to plastic waste in the ocean. Seventy percent of the plastic waste comes from single-use food and beverage plastic containers. Tesco has rapidly scaled up the amount of soft plastic collection points and now collects plastic from customers for recycling in over 900 stores. It has collected over 850 tonnes of soft plastic to date and is working with partners on several recycling solutions.

25 to 30 tonnes per month of collected material, including bread bags, fruit, vegetable and salad packaging, is currently being sent to Berry’s state of the art recycling facility in Heanor, Derbyshire.
