As a strict follower of the Reinheitsgebot, the German Beer Purity Law, sustainability has been a hallmark of the Paulaner Munich brewers for centuries.

Effective immediately, all Paulaner 4-pack cans will convert to eco-friendly cardboard, as opposed to plastic wraps. This is part of the company’s greater commitment towards sustainability, which plans to phase out all plastic packaging within the year.

Recycling units for ‘soft’ plastics – which also includes product wrapping – will launch in 1,500 Co-op stores this month. The retailer added that the scheme would roll out to a total of 2,300 stores by November.

The Co-op said that the scheme follows a pilot of 50 stores last year which found that 86% of shoppers were likely to use the service. The recyclable material is turned, by Jayplas, into post-consumer plastic granules which are then made into secondary products including bin liners and materials for the construction industry.

PACCOR started the testing with the 100% Bio-PP together with Orkla in its Finnish production site in Hämeenlinna. The material is composed from renewable resources and follows the ISCC certified mass balance principle – a chemical industry standard for managing and tracing sustainability characteristics of circular and/or bio-based materials in a complex value chain. In addition to the site in Finland, the PACCOR production site in Ravensburg, Germany, also has ISCC certification.

On the occasion of the World Earth Day on April 22, Zomato on Friday announced that it will go 100% ‘plastic neutral’ for its deliveries starting from April 2022. Deepinder Goyal, Zomato Founder and CEO, in a blogspot shared on Twitter said that the company recognises that it is important to start promoting biodegradable and other non-plastic alternatives to make them become as affordable and available as plastic is today.

The corrugated packaging industry has been hit with a sharp increase in the prices of its principal raw material – kraft paper in the past few days. In the recent turn of events, there has been an increase of INR 5000 per tonne of kraft paper within a very short span of 10 days. The mills say that further increase should be expected in the coming days, said the Federation of Corrugated Box Manufacturers of India (FCBM) in a release.
