In a significant stride toward sustainable pharmaceutical packaging, Orthomol has partnered with Greiner Packaging to revolutionize the production of their signature brown vials. Since 2022, Greiner Packaging has been manufacturing these vials, and with the launch of a fully automated production line in January 2025, both companies have achieved substantial improvements in product quality and production capacity.
The new production line, tailored specifically to Orthomol's requirements, is a technological marvel. Equipped with 18 high-precision cameras and an innovative laminar flow system, it ensures that each vial meets stringent quality standards, inspecting for geometry, color, and potential inclusions in real-time. The laminar flow system maintains a dust-free environment, upholding the highest hygiene standards essential for pharmaceutical products.
Sustainability is at the core of this collaboration. Greiner Packaging has introduced recycled PET (r-PET) into the vial production process, significantly reducing the environmental footprint. The long-term goal is to produce vials entirely from r-PET, aligning with both companies' commitment to environmental responsibility and the circular economy.
