Milliken unveils Millad ClearX 9000 to enhance pp transparency, recycling efficiency

Milliken & Company has launched Millad ClearX 9000, a new clarifying technology designed for polypropylene that provides high transparency while using lower amounts of additives.

This development targets food packaging, home storage containers, and medical products, where clear appearance and safety matter most.

The technology builds on Milliken’s existing Millad platform but operates at reduced loading levels, which cuts the quantity of clarifying agents needed in production.

It also decreases extraction and migration rates in polypropylene items, a key factor for materials in contact with food or medical applications.

Processors report better compatibility during manufacturing, which shortens production cycles and minimizes waste.

One major advantage lies in its handling of resin types. Millad ClearX 9000 eliminates the need to separate virgin polypropylene from post-consumer recycled streams, giving manufacturers greater freedom in blending materials.

This change supports the integration of recycled content without sacrificing clarity or performance.

The additive pairs well with earlier Millad products, allowing formulators to adjust recipes for both new and recycled polypropylene.

In terms of regulatory approval, the technology carries full US Food and Drug Administration clearance for food-contact uses from categories A through J.

This covers a broad spectrum of applications, from dry goods to high-moisture foods stored at various temperatures.

Bhavesh Gandhi, global product line manager for Milliken’s plastic additives business, said the innovation meets demands for better clarity and streamlined operations in polypropylene.

He added that lower additive use and reduced migration help producers deliver items that perform well visually and comply with strict safety requirements for food and medical sectors.

For resin makers and converters, the enhanced compatibility means less equipment downtime and fewer changeovers between batches.

These gains translate to cost savings and smoother workflows.

This release follows a September 2025 partnership between Milliken and OQ, an energy investment firm based in Oman.

The two companies introduced Luban RP2251T, a clarified random copolymer tailored for injection molding. That product expands options for durable, transparent parts in consumer goods.

The timing of Millad ClearX 9000 aligns with rising pressure on packaging firms to incorporate more recycled materials amid global recycling targets.

In the Middle East and Africa, where polypropylene demand grows in food and healthcare sectors, such technologies aid compliance with emerging circular economy rules.

Overall, Millad ClearX 9000 equips the polypropylene supply chain with practical upgrades for clarity, safety, and material reuse, addressing real-world hurdles in sustainable production.
