At IFFA Frankfurt, the global stage for innovations in meat processing, SÜDPACK and MULTIVAC are rewriting the playbook on sustainable packaging. In a powerful display of collaboration and technological finesse, the two companies have introduced a suite of eco-conscious packaging solutions tailored for the meat industry seamlessly combining sustainability with performance.
At the heart of this showcase, located at Booth A41 in Hall 12.1, are three pioneering packaging concepts that harness recyclable mono-materials like PP, PE, and PET. These polymers, while demanding in terms of processing, are being flawlessly handled by MULTIVAC’s state-of-the-art thermoforming packaging machines, tray sealers, and flowpackers thanks to years of close development with SÜDPACK. The result: recyclable packaging that doesn’t compromise on reliability or speed.
Precision Packaging for Raw Ham with Peel PET Floatable Film
One of the standout innovations is the high-performance slicing line for raw ham, featuring SÜDPACK’s new Peel PET floatable film. This peelable lidding film is designed for thermoformed and modified-atmosphere packs. It seals securely to mono-APET trays, even in the presence of fats, while remaining easy to peel without tearing or curling. Its antifog clarity and excellent oxygen barrier ensure premium product visibility and shelf life. Most importantly, during recycling, the top web separates cleanly from the bottom APET tray, enabling true mono-material recovery a step forward for closed-loop recycling systems.
Eco-Conscious Tray Packaging for Fresh Meat
Another impressive advancement is the packaging of minute steaks using mono-PP trays sealed with PP-based lidding film from SÜDPACK’s Pure-Line. Demonstrated on the TX 620 tray sealer, this configuration is fully recyclable and incredibly lightweight, with the film measuring just 60 microns. The reduced material usage does not mean a compromise in strength or usability the packaging remains robust and offers a user-friendly peel experience.
Ground Meat Goes Green in Lightweight Pouches
Challenging traditional norms, the companies also spotlight a revolutionary approach to packaging fresh ground meat: pouches. Once considered unconventional, pouch packaging is now being hailed for its sustainability credentials. On MULTIVAC’s W 510 flowpacker, PP-based flow pack films from SÜDPACK’s Pure-Line are processed with high efficiency, delivering the same level of product protection as rigid trays while slashing material consumption by up to 60%. This not only lightens the packaging but also dramatically reduces the carbon footprint.
A Blueprint for the Future
Together, SÜDPACK and MULTIVAC are not just responding to industry demands they are actively shaping the future of sustainable food packaging. With performance, efficiency, and recyclability all delivered in one package, these innovations mark a significant milestone on the path to a circular economy in the meat industry.
