New Delhi, 27th October 2026: Jindal (India) Limited, part of the BC Jindal Group and one of the leading downstream steel products manufacturers in the country, has announced the successful commissioning of its revamped Continuous Galvanizing Line (CGL-5) at its Ranihati facility in West Bengal, following an investment of INR 50 crore. The revamp has increased the line's production capacity by 51 percent, from 590 tonnes per day to 889 tonnes per day. The commissioning has also marked the successful commencement of prime coil production at the plant.
With the latest enhancement, Jindal (India) Limited's coated sheet production capacity stands at around 1.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). In addition, the company has around 0.5 MTPA of pipe manufacturing capacity, further strengthening its downstream steel product portfolio. Overall, the company's downstream steel manufacturing capacity stands at around 1.6 MTPA.
As part of the CGL-5 revamp, Jindal (India) Limited has enhanced the line's furnace capacity by over 100 percent, from 22 tonnes per hour to 45 tonnes per hour, while the line speed has been upgraded from 150 to 200 metres per minute.
The commissioning of the revamped line also included the addition of an Electrolytic Cleaning Line (ECL), a second recoiler, higher strip accumulation, increased heating furnace capacity and improved cooling performance, all within the existing shed constraints. These enhancements are expected to strengthen the line's productivity, process capability and ability to cater to evolving customer requirements.
The project was completed in just 59 days, ahead of the planned 70-day schedule, resulting in an 11-day schedule gain.
"The successful commissioning of the revamped CGL-5 is an important milestone in our ongoing journey of capacity enhancement and modernization. The increase in the line's production capacity from 590 TPD to 889 TPD strengthens our ability to cater to the growing demand for value-added coated steel products. With our overall downstream steel manufacturing capacity now at around 1.6 MTPA, we have built a stronger manufacturing platform for the next phase of our growth. As we approach our Platinum Jubilee year in 2027, our focus will remain on enhancing our product capabilities, adopting advanced technologies and creating greater value for our customers," said a BC Jindal Group spokesperson.
The latest CGL-5 enhancement builds on Jindal (India) Limited's continued investments in strengthening its downstream steel manufacturing capabilities. The company has two modern manufacturing facilities located at Jangalpur and Ranihati in Howrah, West Bengal, with capabilities spanning advanced colour coating and metal coating technologies.
