Heat, Traffic Jams, and Holiday Journeys: MANNOL Operating and Service Fluids Help Prepare Vehicles for Summer

  • High temperatures and long journeys place additional strain on the engine, cooling system, transmission, and brakes
  • Coolant, engine oil, and brake fluid perform key protective and safety-related functions
  • MANNOL offers a broad range of operating fluids for maintenance and reliable performance in summer

Summer heat, long motorway journeys, stop-and-go traffic, and full vehicle loads can place considerably greater strain on vehicles than normal day-to-day driving. The engine, cooling system, transmission, and brakes in particular then operate under increased thermal load. For workshops and vehicle owners, checking operating fluids in good time is therefore an important preventive measure. MANNOL offers a broad range of high-performance operating and service fluids for this purpose.

Summer heat as a stress test

Modern vehicles are equipped with efficient thermal management systems. Nevertheless, they still rely on operating fluids that perform their functions reliably. Engine oil, coolant, transmission oil, and brake fluid each fulfil different roles: they lubricate, cool, protect against corrosion, transmit forces, and help ensure that components remain functional even under high thermal loads.

Before longer holiday journeys, it is therefore advisable to take a close look at fluid levels, condition, and change intervals. A summer check gives workshops a good opportunity to make vehicle owners aware of potential risks and to explain the importance of preventive maintenance in a clear and practical way.

Coolant is not just for winter

Many drivers primarily associate coolant with frost protection. In reality, however, it also performs a number of important tasks in summer: it helps keep the engine temperature within the optimum range, protects against corrosion, prevents deposits, and improves heat dissipation within the cooling system.

If the coolant is ageing, mixed incorrectly, or present in insufficient quantity, cooling performance can be impaired. Especially in high outside temperatures, traffic jams, or towing operation, this increases the risk of overheating. Regular checks and the use of a coolant that is suitable for the vehicle are therefore important elements of summer maintenance.

Engine oil and transmission oil under continuous load

Engine oil and transmission oil are also subjected to greater stress in summer. High temperatures, long operating times, and stop-and-go traffic put additional strain on the oil film, additive systems, and oxidation stability. Engine oil must maintain its lubricating properties even under high thermal load, reduce friction, and protect components against wear.

In automatic, dual-clutch, or manual transmissions, high loads and long journeys can also increase temperature and fluid stress. A suitable transmission oil helps maintain shift comfort, power transmission, and component protection even under demanding conditions.

Brake fluid as a safety factor

Brake fluid is particularly relevant to safety. When vehicles are fully loaded, driven in mountainous terrain, or used for towing, the braking system has to work significantly harder. At the same time, brake fluid absorbs moisture over time. This can lower the boiling point, which may negatively affect braking performance.

For workshops, checking the brake fluid is therefore a key part of the summer check. Replacing it in good time helps ensure the functional safety of the braking system, even on demanding journeys.

MANNOL offers broad solutions for summer maintenance

MANNOL supports workshops, specialist retailers, and vehicle owners with a broad range of operating and service fluids. The focus includes coolants such as MANNOL Antifreeze in various technologies – from AG11 and AF12+ to AG13 and AF13++ – which are tailored to different cooling systems and manufacturer requirements. They contribute to temperature stability within the cooling system and protect components against corrosion and deposits.

For safety-relevant systems, MANNOL also offers brake fluids such as MANNOL Brake Fluid DOT-4 for hydraulic brake and clutch systems. The range also includes products such as MANNOL PAG 46 Refrigerant Oil for air-conditioning systems, as well as AdBlue® for diesel vehicles with SCR technology. This allows vehicles to be prepared specifically for summer load conditions – from daily urban traffic to holiday journeys with heavy loads.

Konstantin Gaab, Managing Director of MANNOL / SCT Germany: ‘For many drivers, a holiday journey begins with packing the boot. For workshops, it should ideally begin earlier – with a targeted look at coolant, oil, and brake fluid. This is exactly where we see our role as a partner: we do not simply supply products, but solutions that enable businesses to advise their customers in good time and prepare vehicles reliably for the warm season.’
