Konica Minolta Business Solutions (UK) has launched the JETvarnish 3D Web 400, a new digital embellishment system designed to help label converters deliver premium finishes within a streamlined, fully digital workflow. The solution aims to support faster product launches, enable agile design changes, and enhance on-shelf differentiation for brand owners.
Now available, the JETvarnish 3D Web 400 is the latest roll-to-roll digital embellishment press from MGI Digital Technology. It enables single-pass spot UV varnishing and hot foil stamping through a 100% digital process, compatible with a wide range of substrates and print technologies, including offset, flexo, toner, and inkjet.
The system is suited for short, medium, and long production runs, offering both flat and 3D digital spot UV varnish and hot foil stamping, with support for fixed and variable data. This flexibility allows converters to efficiently produce high-impact labels while simplifying production processes.
From a brand owner’s perspective, the technology enables faster and more responsive product launches while improving visual appeal and brand perception. High-quality, consistent digital embellishment allows brands to adapt quickly to market demands, introduce new designs with confidence, and differentiate more effectively at the point of sale—reducing time-to-market without the limitations of traditional finishing methods.
Built on a modular platform, the JETvarnish 3D Web 400 is available in six configurations, including options for one or two print engines, with or without a hot foil unit, and with or without an inline semi-rotary die-cutting unit—allowing businesses to tailor the system to their production needs and budgets.
The press is operated via an intuitive user interface, which can also be mirrored on a digital workstation, enabling operators to execute complex finishing tasks beyond the capabilities of conventional technologies. Its MGI Connect software suite integrates cost calculation, predictive maintenance, and realistic visualization of embellishment effects.
With full digital integration, a unified workflow, and real-time monitoring, the system aligns with the principles of Industry 5.0, delivering enhanced productivity and consistent output quality.
Key features include advanced 3D and augmented reality proofing, allowing customers to remotely visualize embellishment results before production. An AI-driven AIS Scanner ensures precise, on-the-fly registration for consistent quality.
The system also offers the option to apply a standard spot UV varnish in the first print unit and a special varnish in the second unit that does not adhere to hot foil. This enables combined varnishing and foiling in a single pass, improving efficiency and reducing processing steps.
The JETvarnish 3D Web 400 delivers production speeds of up to 42 meters per minute and supports roll widths from 200 mm to 350 mm, extendable to 420 mm. Its compact footprint and low power consumption contribute to reduced CO₂ emissions.
Additional efficiency features include automatic on-the-fly makeready to minimize waste and optimize material usage, seamless back-to-back job processing, and an automated cleaning system that requires just 10 minutes per day.
Toshi Uemura, head of industrial print business at Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe, said: “With this groundbreaking technology enabling single-pass spot UV varnishing and hot foil stamping through a fully digital process, the JETvarnish 3D Web 400 demonstrates our commitment to helping printers, converters, and brand owners rethink possibilities and maximize efficiencies. This launch reflects our dedication to advancing digital transformation, strengthening industry resilience, and supporting a more sustainable future for print as Industry 5.0 evolves.”
