Henkel Adhesive Technologies Partners with Sekab to Advance Bio-Based Adhesive Raw Materials

Henkel Adhesive Technologies has entered into a strategic collaboration with Sekab to accelerate the shift from fossil-based to bio-based raw materials in adhesive production. The partnership focuses on replacing conventional fossil-derived ethyl acetate with a sustainable, bio-based alternative—marking a significant step toward lower-carbon adhesive solutions.

By integrating renewable raw materials as a drop-in solution, Henkel aims to maintain high performance while reducing the environmental footprint of its products. This approach enables customers to progress toward their climate and sustainability targets without requiring changes to existing processes or value chains.

“This collaboration reflects our commitment to innovation with impact,” said Elodie Picard, Head of Sustainability for the Packaging division at Henkel Adhesive Technologies. “By working with Sekab, we are advancing sustainable material solutions that deliver both environmental benefits and reliable performance for our customers.”

From Sekab’s perspective, the partnership highlights the scalability and practicality of bio-based chemistry in industrial applications. “Our collaboration with Henkel demonstrates how fossil-free, bio-based chemicals can be seamlessly integrated into existing value chains without compromising performance,” said Adam Lindholm, Head of Sales and Business Development at Sekab. “Together, we are accelerating the transition toward a fossil-independent chemical industry and generating tangible climate benefits.”

The collaboration supports Henkel’s broader sustainability strategy, which prioritizes circular solutions, carbon emission reductions, and customer enablement through innovative adhesive technologies. It also forms part of a wider series of sustainability initiatives and partnerships aimed at driving climate leadership and innovation across regions and industries.
