OLD BAY®, the legendary Chesapeake Bay seasoning, is returning to its roots by transitioning its packaging from plastic back to its original tin format. Rolling out on shelves this month, the updated packaging preserves the brand’s instantly recognizable yellow, blue, and red design—while reviving the classic look, feel, and user experience that longtime fans know and love.
The move pays homage to the seasoning’s rich history and deep cultural ties to the Chesapeake Bay region, reinforcing OLD BAY’s status as more than just a flavor—it’s a tradition.
“OLD BAY is more than a seasoning. It’s a symbol of heritage, flavor, and Baltimore pride,” said Giovanna DiLegge, Vice President of Marketing, U.S. Consumer at McCormick & Company. “The return to tin is our way of honoring generations of fans who’ve made OLD BAY a staple for decades—from crab feasts with family and friends to countless everyday moments where food brings people together.”
Limited-Edition Celebrations with Baltimore Flair
To mark the return of the classic tin, OLD BAY is launching a special giveaway from December 1 to December 14, 2025, offering fans a chance to win a limited-edition collectible prize pack housed in a custom tin created in collaboration with the Baltimore Ravens.
In addition, OLD BAY will host an invite-only launch event on December 4, 2025, in partnership with Baltimore institution Jimmy's Famous Seafood. Further details will be announced soon.
A Timeless Flavor, Back in Its Original Form
For more than 80 years, OLD BAY has been enjoyed year-round—not just on classics like crab cakes and crab dip, but also on chicken, pizza, pasta, salads, and even as a bold topper for drinks. Especially popular during colder months, the seasoning (and OLD BAY Hot Sauce) continues to be a go-to gift and pantry essential.
Crafted from a signature blend of 18 herbs and spices, OLD BAY has grown from a regional favorite into a globally loved flavor—yet its heart remains firmly rooted in its origins.
Now, fans can once again shake their favorite seasoning from the classic tin that started it all, a timeless symbol of culinary culture, nostalgia, and shared moments around the table.
