South african retailer woolworths introduced a new form of packaging for it&rsquos on the go sandwiches that are made from fsc certified cardboard with a cornbased plastic window. It is the first time that certified sustainable cardboard is being used in south african food packaging. 

Companies are starting to get more into environmental packaging. The latest is dell. Dell gets just a little greener by adding bamboo in its product packaging portfolio. And they are the first in the pc industry to do it. It applies to all dell inspiron mini 10 and mini 10v netbooks shipped. Bamboo is used as product cushions cradling the mini within an outer box that is made from 25 postconsumer materials. Starting early next year, dell hopes to expand their use of bamboo packaging to a wider range of its products.

The already compact sales packaging has now shrunk even further, and a silverlined s, which stands for speed, has been added to the type name. Furthermore, a picture of the smartphone apple iphone 3gs is displayed on the front, whilst the apple logo can be found on the side, just like the text displayed in silver. The freshness indicator changes colour to remind users of the useby date. The freshness indicator is made primarily of epaper and is attached to a consumable product with a loop of elasticlike cord. The timer is pressed when the product is first bought, with the number of presses equalling how many days the product is expected to stay fresh. Five presses, for example, would equal five days.
