Stora Enso, a global leader in renewable materials, has announced the launch of Performa Nova, a next-generation folding boxboard (FBB) designed to meet the evolving demands of sustainable consumer packaging. This innovative product is the first to emerge from the company's newly established board line at the Oulu Mill in Finland, which is set to be fully operational in 2025.
Engineered for Efficiency and Sustainability
Performa Nova is produced using Stora Enso's proprietary FiberLight Tec™ technology, which creates exceptionally strong yet lightweight boards. This advancement allows for higher material efficiency, enabling brand owners to produce more packages with less raw material without compromising strength or visual appeal.
The board is made from fresh fibers sourced from sustainably managed forests and is widely accepted in recycling streams. It is also food-safe, adhering to industry standards regarding odor and taste neutrality. Performa Nova can be combined with barrier coatings to resist moisture and grease, ensuring product protection during transportation and handling.
Versatile Applications Across Industries
Performa Nova is suitable for a range of applications, including frozen, chilled, and dry food packaging, as well as food service needs. Available in grammages from 200 to 315 g/m², it offers flexibility to meet diverse packaging requirements.
Commitment to a Circular Economy
By introducing Performa Nova, Stora Enso reinforces its dedication to a circular packaging future, providing brand owners with renewable and recyclable materials that align with consumer preferences for eco-friendly packaging options.
As the global consumer board market continues to grow, with projections indicating it will reach 11 million tonnes by 2030, Performa Nova positions Stora Enso at the forefront of sustainable packaging solutions.
