Mondi has expanded its sustainable flexible packaging portfolio with the launch of re/loop FlowWrap, a mono-polypropylene (PP) packaging solution containing 35% post-consumer recycled (PCR) content for wet wipes. Designed for mechanical recycling, the innovation enables home and personal care brands to transition away from conventional multi-material laminates without compromising packaging performance.
The new form-fill-and-seal (FFS) solution has been engineered for applications requiring customised barrier properties, including baby care, cosmetic and household wipes. Manufactured from mono-PP, the material is compatible with polypropylene mechanical recycling in line with CEFLEX D4ACE guidelines, supporting the industry's move towards a more circular plastics economy.
A key innovation of re/loop FlowWrap is its ability to combine 35% PCR content with performance comparable to virgin polymer packaging. According to Mondi, extensive internal testing and customer trials demonstrated reliable sealing, effective barrier protection and smooth machinability, allowing manufacturers to adopt the material on existing packaging lines without major equipment modifications.
The development also positions brands to meet future regulatory requirements. Under the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), plastic packaging in this category will be required to contain 35% recycled content from post-consumer plastic waste by 2030. By already incorporating this level of recycled material, re/loop FlowWrap offers converters and brand owners a future-ready packaging solution while maintaining operational efficiency.
To validate commercial performance, Mondi conducted external trials on IMA Ilapak packaging equipment, where the material demonstrated excellent runnability at high production speeds. The company also showcased the solution live at the INDEX trade fair, highlighting its compatibility with modern packaging machinery and reinforcing the importance of collaboration between material developers and equipment manufacturers.
