Hesser Packaging GmbH and SÜDPACK are set to present an innovative packaging concept for whole and ground coffee in a 1 kg format at interpack 2026. The solution features recyclable, PP-based stand-up pouches from SÜDPACK’s CarbonLite® range, combining sustainability with high-performance barrier properties.
Visitors can explore the solution at the Packaging Valley area in Hall 16.
Sustainable Design Meets High Barrier Performance
The CarbonLite® films are engineered as PP-based mono-material structures, designed for recyclability while maintaining the functional requirements of coffee packaging. Key advantages include:
- High oxygen and moisture barrier for aroma and freshness
- Protection against UV light through optional pigmentation or metallization
- Lightweight construction with reduced carbon footprint compared to conventional laminates
The solution provides a sustainable alternative to traditional PET/Alu/PE laminates, aligning with evolving regulatory frameworks and circular packaging goals.
Designed for Industrial Compatibility
A key strength of the concept lies in its drop-in compatibility with existing packaging lines. Developed in collaboration with machine manufacturers, the films can be processed at industrial scale without requiring significant equipment modifications—an essential factor for large-scale adoption.
Reliable Sealing and Premium Shelf Appeal
The packaging solution ensures consistent sealing performance, enabling secure integration of aroma protection valves—critical for maintaining coffee quality.
In addition, SÜDPACK offers multiple high-quality printing options, including:
- Rotogravure
- Flexo
- Digital
- 7-colour printing
These capabilities allow brands to achieve strong shelf impact while maintaining functional integrity.
PMX 4001: Engineered for Coffee Packaging Excellence
At its booth, Hesser will also showcase the PMX 4001, a compact yet high-performance vertical form-fill-seal machine specifically developed for coffee applications.
Key features include:
- Output of up to 65 pouches per minute
- Capability to produce a wide range of pouch formats and sealing styles
- Deep vacuum functionality for enhanced aroma protection
- High filling accuracy at elevated speeds
The system also integrates advanced digital features such as IO-Link connectivity and Synexio integration, enabling real-time data monitoring, process optimization, and predictive maintenance.
Its open, accessible design ensures easy cleaning and fast changeovers, supporting efficient 24/7 production.
Hesser’s Strategic Relaunch
The interpack showcase also marks an important milestone for Hesser Packaging, which recently re-emerged as an independent subsidiary of Syntegon. Building on a legacy spanning over 165 years since the founding of Geiger & Hesser, the company is focused on machines, services, and valve technologies for dry food packaging, including coffee, flour, and sugar.
