Amcor Unveils Ultra-Lightweight, Sustainable Closure with Bold Shelf Appeal

In a compelling blend of design, safety, and sustainability, Amcor has unveiled its newest innovation in closure technology the Hector Child Resistant Closure (CRC) proving that impactful packaging doesn’t need to be heavy to make a statement.

At just 7.25 grams, the Hector CRC is among the lightest closures on the market, offering brands a sustainable alternative without sacrificing aesthetics or functionality. Compared to a standard 14g closure, it delivers a material saving of 6.75 tonnes of plastic per million units, contributing significantly to CO₂ reduction efforts. And it’s not just light it’s smartly engineered. The closure has been assessed with industry recyclability tools and received the highest recyclability rating when paired with HDPE or PET bottles.

What sets Hector apart is its bold, consumer-focused design. The two-piece system includes a dome-shaped overcap and directional nozzle, seamlessly complementing the curved profiles of typical bleach and toilet cleaner bottles. The large 38mm (HDPE) and 36mm (PET) neck finish enhances shelf presence, while custom color-matching allows brands to maintain visual identity.

But sustainability isn’t where the innovation stops. Functionality meets safety with an intuitive squeeze-and-turn CRC mechanism featuring thumb and finger holds, ensuring ease of use while adhering to child safety standards. The directional nozzle allows for precise product application, even in hard-to-reach areas, and the tight seal prevents leaks.

For added environmental impact, the Hector can also be produced using up to 100% of Amcor’s CleanStream® PCR plastic, derived from household recycling streams, and suitable for non-contact-sensitive applications.

“The Hector is a clear example of how innovation can solve multiple challenges at once combining safety, usability, sustainability, and a striking shelf appeal,” said Alejandra Beltran, VP of R&D at Amcor Global Rigid Packaging Solutions. “It’s a product that shows how less can truly be more.”

With Hector, Amcor is once again demonstrating how cutting-edge packaging can elevate both brand value and planet-friendly performance a closure designed to open new possibilities.
