TOPPAN Group Launches Hybrid Line Manufacturing BOPP and BOPE Films for Sustainable Packaging

TOPPAN Inc. (TOPPAN), a TOPPAN Group company and wholly owned subsidiary of TOPPAN Holdings Inc., and its India-based subsidiary TOPPAN Speciality Films Private Limited (TSF), have installed a hybrid manufacturing line capable of producing both biaxially-oriented polypropylene (BOPP) film and biaxially-oriented polyethylene (BOPE) on the same machine. With an extensive track record in the production of BOPP films, TSF is now launching production of BOPE on the new line to cater to diversifying demand.

TSF will begin mass production on the new hybrid line from mid-November this year, supplying BOPP and BOPE films to packaging converters and global brand owners in sectors such as food and FMCG in India and throughout the world.

A bottled beverage might soon come with a lower carbon footprint thanks to a new partnership between one of the world’s leading glass manufacturers and scientists at Penn State.

Verallia, the world’s third largest producer of glass containers for food and beverages, has announced a partnership with Penn State to scale up the use of LionGlass, a new family of glass developed by researchers at the University. The company has entered into a research partnership with Penn State to test the new type of glass for use in consumer packaging.

NIGERIA – Nestlé Nigeria has achieved a major sustainability milestone, becoming the first company in the country to incorporate 50% recycled PET (rPET) into its water packaging.

The innovation marks a significant step in advancing circular packaging and reducing dependence on virgin plastic.

Nestlé is a founding member of the Food and Beverage Recycling Alliance (FBRA), Nigeria’s first producer responsibility organization (PRO), which champions Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and drives accountability for post-consumer packaging waste.

But manufacturers are trying to do their bit to mitigate their impact. For example, DS Smith, Krones and Coca-Cola HBC are working together to create a recyclable packaging solution to reduce single use plastics in drinks packaging.
