Vacuum Barrier Corporation to Highlight Cryogenic LN₂ Solutions for Pharmaceutical and Biotech Applications at ISPE Gillette

VBC's SEMIFLEX® and Triax piping technologies provide reliable low-pressure liquid nitrogen delivery for cryogenic preservation and other critical life sciences applications.

Woburn, MA – Vacuum Barrier Corporation (VBC), a leader in the design, engineering, and fabrication of liquid nitrogen dosing and piping systems, will showcase solutions for pharmaceutical and biotechnology applications at ISPE Gillette, October 7 in Foxborough, Massachusetts. Attendees can visit VBC at Booth E132 to learn how properly designed liquid nitrogen (LN₂) distribution systems can support critical cryogenic applications throughout life sciences facilities.

Liquid nitrogen plays an essential role in the cryogenic preservation of blood, reproductive cells, vaccines, biological tissues, and other temperature-sensitive materials. LN₂ also supports freeze dryers, or lyophilizers, used to preserve heat-sensitive products, along with laboratory equipment including SEM, NMR, and mass spectrometry systems. These applications require reliable, controlled delivery of low-pressure liquid nitrogen.

At ISPE Gillette, VBC will highlight its SEMIFLEX®/Triax piping system, which transfers LN₂ from a high-pressure bulk source to individual use points throughout a facility. This centralized approach can eliminate the inconvenience associated with routinely transporting and replacing individual Dewar tanks at each point of use.

In a typical system, LN₂ is plumbed from the facility's high-pressure bulk tank through SEMIFLEX piping before entering a liquid/vapor phase separator, where pressure is reduced to atmospheric pressure. Triax piping then gravity feeds low-pressure, subcooled liquid to the required use points, while gas generated within the piping system is vented through the phase separator.

For pharmaceutical and biotechnology facilities, this approach provides an efficient way to make LN₂ available where it is needed while supporting the consistent cooling required by demanding cryogenic processes.

Liquid nitrogen offers several inherent advantages for these applications. Nitrogen is inert, abundant, and relatively low cost, while its low temperature enables rapid cooling. It can serve as either a primary or secondary cooling method and can require less maintenance than mechanical freezing systems.

VBC representatives will be available throughout ISPE Gillette to discuss cryogenic preservation, laboratory and pharmaceutical applications, and the design of LN₂ distribution systems tailored to individual facilities.
