Plastic Pallets Transform Operations at Smurfit WestRock Limerick Facility

In a remarkable shift toward efficiency and safety, Smurfit WestRock’s Limerick plant has reported transformative results after replacing traditional wooden pallets with high-performance plastic pallets developed by C&T Matrix. Introduced in 2023, C&T’s BRC accredited plastic pallets were designed specifically for the packaging and converting industry and they are proving to be a game changer.

Engineered to support non-stop logistics systems for print and die cutting, these pallets enable continuous feed operations that can boost sheet conversion by up to 15% over a 24-hour shift. This not only increases throughput but also reduces downtime a critical advantage in high-volume production environments.

The benefits extend well beyond speed. Unlike wooden alternatives, which can splinter and risk product contamination or injury, C&T’s plastic pallets are clean, robust, and safer for handling. With multiple size options tailored to different machine formats, the solution offers both flexibility and functionality.

Smurfit WestRock has embraced this innovation fully, eliminating wooden pallets from the production floor after 18 months of successful implementation. “They’ve been a game changer for cutting and creasing,” says Paul McCormack, Cut & Crease Manager. “The continuous feed for larger jobs is seamless, and the finishing team loves them they’re more stable and safer, with no splinters or damaged cartons.”

Howard Mead, Global Sales Director at C&T Matrix, added, “Our goal is to partner closely with clients to understand their needs and deliver real performance advantages. Smurfit WestRock’s success with our plastic pallets reflects that approach quality, expertise, and support that unlock production potential.”

This collaboration marks a strong step forward in smarter, safer logistics within the packaging sector one pallet at a time.
