BW Packaging, Barry-Wehmiller's packaging machinery business, has expanded the application of its Hayssen X850multi-jaw flow wrapper into the wet wipes packaging segment, introducing a high-speed solution engineered to deliver superior seal integrity, operational efficiency, and reliability under demanding production conditions.
Wet wipes packaging presents unique challenges, requiring hermetic seals to maintain product moisture and efficacy while handling thin packaging films, high moisture content, and continuous high-speed production. Conventional single-jaw flow wrappers often struggle under these conditions, leading to inconsistent seals, product leakage, and unplanned downtime. The Hayssen X850 has been specifically designed to overcome these limitations.
Developed following five years of market research and customer collaboration, the Hayssen X850 combines patented multi-jaw technology with individual servo ring drives and a quick-release jaw design. According to Jim Kolmus, Vice President of Innovation Operations at BW Packaging, the machine delivers up to twice the production speed of conventional systems while achieving significantly improved seal integrity, representing a major advancement for wet wipes manufacturers.
At the heart of the system is a patented jaw wheel mechanism that allows the sealing jaws to remain engaged for up to ten times longer than traditional single-jaw flow wrappers, even at higher operating speeds. The extended seal dwell time enables consistent, high-quality seals without excessive heat, reducing the risk of thermal damage to sensitive films while supporting a broader range of packaging materials, including recyclable films.
Beyond its mechanical innovations, the Hayssen X850 incorporates advanced digital features to simplify operation and maximize productivity. Equipped with RFID operator login and BW Packaging's latest OpView™ Human-Machine Interface (HMI), the system streamlines machine setup, operator training, and day-to-day operation.
Manufactured in the United States, the flow wrapper also features proprietary anti-jam technology and automatic pack rejection systems designed to minimize production interruptions. These capabilities are particularly valuable in wet wipes manufacturing, where equipment downtime can directly impact product quality, material waste, and overall production efficiency.
With the expansion of the Hayssen X850 into the wet wipes market, BW Packaging reinforces its commitment to delivering innovative flexible packaging technologies that combine high throughput, intelligent automation, and reliable sealing performance for manufacturers operating in demanding production environments.
