Schreiner MediPharm Introduces Transparent Deep-Freeze Seal for Secure Sub-Zero Pharmaceutical Packaging !

Share:

Schreiner MediPharm, a leading innovator in functional labels for the healthcare sector, has developed a transparent deep-freeze seal designed to deliver reliable adhesion and tamper evidence even under extreme sub-zero conditions. This innovation ensures the safety and integrity of temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals throughout the supply chain.

With the implementation of the EU Falsified Medicines Directive and ISO 21976, tamper-evident packaging for prescription drugs has become mandatory. At the same time, the rise of advanced therapies—such as mRNA-based drugs, biologics, and cell and gene therapies—has introduced new challenges, as these products often require storage and transport at extremely low temperatures.

Conventional security seals applied to folding cartons tend to lose adhesion performance in deep-freeze environments, compromising tamper evidence. Addressing this critical gap, Schreiner MediPharm’s new seal is engineered to perform reliably at temperatures as low as -196°C, ensuring consistent adhesion and security under even the harshest conditions.

The seal incorporates a multi-tear effect as a dual-layer security feature. Any attempt to remove the seal results in irreversible film tearing due to integrated security cuts. Additionally, depending on the carton surface, fiber tear-off occurs on the packaging, making tampering immediately visible. To further enhance protection, the seal includes a sophisticated guilloche pattern for authentication, with options to integrate overt, semi-covert, and covert security features tailored to specific risk scenarios.

The deep-freeze seal is available in two application variants:

  • One optimized for dispensing at 10°C
  • Another designed for application at temperatures down to -50°C

Both variants fully comply with regulatory requirements and ensure reliable adhesion to folding cartons across the entire pharmaceutical supply chain.

Beyond the product itself, Schreiner MediPharm offers end-to-end consulting, supporting pharmaceutical manufacturers in selecting and customizing solutions based on their specific packaging needs and threat environments.
