Nissha introduces Pulp-Injection: A breakthrough in sustainable molded packaging

Share:

Nissha, under its ecosense portfolio, has developed an advanced packaging technology known as Pulp-Injection, a next-generation solution designed to replace conventional plastic packaging with high-performance, fibre-based alternatives. Built using natural materials such as pulp, starch, and water, this innovation combines sustainability with the precision and functionality of plastic injection molding.

At its core, Pulp-Injection uses a proprietary pellet made primarily from pulp and starch, which is mixed with water and injected into a mold. The material is then heated to remove moisture, forming a thin, rigid, and highly precise structure. This process enables the creation of complex shapes such as ribs, flanges, and embossed designs—features typically associated with plastic packaging.

One of the key advantages of Pulp-Injection is its ability to deliver plastic-like performance with a significantly lower environmental footprint. The material contains over 90% bio-based content and is classified under the PAP 21 recycling stream, making it fully compatible with existing paper recycling systems. Additionally, it is biodegradable and can be composted under industrial conditions, supporting circular economy principles.

Despite its sustainability credentials, the solution does not compromise on functionality. Pulp-Injection offers high rigidity even at thin wall thicknesses of around 0.6–1.0 mm, providing strong protection for sensitive products during transport. It is also lightweight—up to 40% lighter than PET—helping reduce logistics costs and carbon emissions.

The technology is particularly suited for industries where precision, hygiene, and product protection are critical. Applications include pharmaceutical trays, medical device packaging, cosmetics inserts, and premium consumer goods. Its low fiber dust generation and clean, smooth surface make it ideal for sterile and high-quality packaging environments.

Beyond performance, Pulp-Injection enhances brand value through its premium paper-like texture, offering a natural and sustainable aesthetic that aligns with evolving consumer expectations. At the same time, its compatibility with existing packaging lines enables seamless integration for manufacturers transitioning away from plastics.

As industries worldwide move toward reducing plastic waste and carbon emissions, Pulp-Injection stands out as a scalable and practical solution. By combining advanced molding technology with renewable materials, Nissha is helping redefine the future of packaging—delivering innovation that is both high-performing and environmentally responsible.
