Traditional food cup packaging often relies on three components: the cup, an aluminum foil seal and an outer lid. Greiner Packaging’s Click In concept simplifies this structure by removing the foil layer entirely and reducing the packaging to only two components cup and lid. Both components can be manufactured from the same material, such as polypropylene (PP) or PET, enabling improved recyclability and reduced material complexity.
The mono-material concept also supports lower material consumption and reduced CO₂ emissions across the packaging lifecycle while helping brands align with circular economy objectives.
Click In Technology Delivers Secure Leak Protection
At the center of the innovation is Greiner Packaging’s “Click In” locking mechanism. Unlike conventional snap-on lids, the Click In lid features a smart inner snap-fit system that audibly and tangibly locks into the cup rim after resealing. This provides enhanced leak protection, even when the package is tipped over during transport or handling.
The solution requires only minimal modification to the cup rim while remaining compatible with both thermoformed and injection-molded cups. According to Greiner Packaging, the audible “click” also gives consumers reassurance that the package has been securely reclosed.

Designed for Convenience and Extended Freshness
The resealable design improves usability by eliminating the need to remove and discard separate foil seals after opening. Consumers can simply remove the lid and securely reclose it after use, helping maintain freshness and protect the contents from moisture and contamination.
This makes the solution particularly suitable for larger food pack sizes and multi-use products where resealability and shelf-life extension are increasingly important.
Flexible Packaging Design and Production Compatibility
Greiner Packaging also focused on ensuring broad production compatibility and design flexibility. The Click In sealing lid can accommodate a wide range of cup geometries, including round, square and rectangular formats, while supporting full-surface decoration right up to the sealing edge.
