Sidel has launched Nitro Square, an innovative square-shaped PET bottle designed specifically for still water using liquid nitrogen (LN₂) dosing, offering brands a fresh, premium look without compromising performance.
“The nitrogen-dosed water bottle market is largely dominated by cylindrical forms, as this is the natural shape created by the internal pressure of the bottle’s contents,” explains Xavier Monnier, Packaging Innovation Polymer Expert at Sidel. “Nitro Square allows manufacturers to elevate their brands with a unique square design that stands out on the shelf, secures its shape and performance across the supply chain, and is valid for rPET.”
A Breakthrough in Form and Function
Nitro Square combines bold aesthetics with engineered strength. Its structure blends rigid panels with flexible, pressure-absorbing zones, ensuring the square geometry is maintained even under LN₂-induced internal pressure. This gives manufacturers the freedom to introduce standout, shelf-ready designs while retaining mechanical stability.
The bottle is further enhanced by Sidel’s signature StarLITE®-R Nitro wave-shaped base, which increases durability, improves stability, and boosts drop resistance ,all while contributing to lighter-weight, more sustainable packaging.
Customisable, Versatile and High-Speed Compatible
Designed with brand flexibility in mind, Nitro Square supports easy customisation across premium, mainstream, or value-segment positioning. It is available in both single-serve and multi-serve formats, enabling broad market appeal.
Integration into existing operations is smooth: the design is fully compatible with Sidel Universal, Series 2, and EvoBLOW platforms, supporting production speeds of up to 2,600 bottles per hour per mould.
Nitro Square marks a significant advancement in PET packaging for still water, giving beverage producers a distinctive, high-performance alternative to traditional cylindrical LN₂-dosed bottles with added sustainability benefits through rPET compatibility.
