Wipak UK develops packs for new popcorn snack

The flexible packaging company used a specially-developed film structure and advanced laser-score technology to create the pull away panel, with the resulting pack robust enough to withstand the rigours of the supply chain, but still easy to open.
It can also be opened in the traditional way from the top of the pack for ultimate consumer convenience.
Wayne Hallsworth, sales manager at Wipak UK, said the design is based on an increasingly popular sharing concept for snacks.

Sustainable Paper Cups

Stora Enso has introduced a new board grade for microwave-proof cups. Cupforma Natura PP comes with a coating that withstands being heated in the microwave and is therefore suitable for packaging soups and other foods as well as drinks sold in portions, such as cocoa. Cupforma Ice from Stora Enso can also be used for attractive ice cream packages in a range of sizes. The advanced construction of the board provides a lower weight than usual, which helps cut back on raw materials and spare the environment.

New Quaffer Shot-Tail Glass

M&H Manufactured the new Quaffer with a fun element to bars and clubs across Europe. Developed from its original glass composition and manufactured in PET by M&H Plastics, the Quaffer glass allows bars to mix various drinks in equal measure with one floating on the top of the other, creating a novel drinking experience and allowing the drink to mix as it is drunk.  Sales of the Quaffer have been exceptional with bars reporting up to 600% increase in sales of drink that are suitable for the glass.

Corrugated Grill Box

Mondi has designed and developed a Grill Box which is a technical solution that uses the principles of physics when kindling fire. The ingenuity of the design makes it easier, cleaner and safer to light charcoal for the barbeque. There is no need to remove out caton for buring charcoal. The outer corrugated packaging creates a chimney effect for highly efficient igniting of the charcoal and kindling wood with simply a match. Special aeration channels at the bottom of the packaging enhance this effect.

The targeted retail environment for this promotion was Tesco main stores. The unit needed to perform fully loaded through the supply chain to store and then deliver a stand out display that would link the appliances to Formula One, enticing the shopper and with an instant product recognition. The unit was designed to transit to store full of stock so the Main Body, back, Base & Shelf Inserts were produced in 175CKB/150WTK EB flute, with the Shelf Trays, Spoilers & Side Vents in high quality Litho printed 175CKB/150WTK E flute.
