Thinking outside the box with reusable takeout packaging

This ever-expanding ecological crisis caught the attention of 33-year-old Montrealer Mishel Wong. She has just launched an app-based reusable takeout packaging service in the city, the “Bo option.” In collaboration with 16 restaurants in the Plateau/Mile End districts, customers now have the option to choose reusable packaging in the form of what she calls “Bo containers” when ordering takeout.

Tupperware Creates One-of-a-Kind Reusable Packaging for Restaurant Brand International's Tim Hortons as Part of Its Partnership with Loop

 Tupperware last year announced a partnership with TerraCycle's zero-waste platform Loop, which works with leading brands to create zero-waste, durable and returnable packaging. Tupperware designed and produced a one-of-a-kind reusable packaging container option for Tim Hortons – one of Loop's brand partners.

Aeon Launches Products With Loop’s Reusable Packaging In 19 Stores Across Japan

Founded by Franco/U.S.-based recycling company TerraCycle, Loop has partnered with Aeon to encourage refillable packaging systems in their retail outlets. The alliance has garnered the support of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government that wants to promote the “three Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle)” to create better sustainable foundations for consumers across the city.

Waitrose relaunches food sharing platters with less packaging

UK-based supermarket chain Waitrose is reintroducing its ten lines of food sharing platters with less packaging material after a full redesign.

The sandwich, roll and wrap sharing platters will now come in a cardboard base without an outer case or lid.

Waitrose has reduced the use of packaging in the products by 65% overall, saving 60% of single-use plastic from sandwiches and 40% single-use plastic on wraps.

The fully recyclable boxes and film are designed in a ready-to-serve format to make food sharing easy.

White Bear Studio designs identity for reusable packaging startup

For the initiative create concept, White Bear explored what comes to mind when people think of recycling. The universally known recycling symbol inspired the studio to transform the product itself into its own recognisable symbol, with the logo conveying the brand’s purpose before the package is opened.

A sustainable development master student at the Copernicus Institute for Sustainable Development at Utrecht University compared for his thesis the primary and secondary packaging: a Fillbee used in combination with reusable glass bottles, aluminum  cans wrapped in plastic film and cardboard packs with one-way glass bottles.
