Nationwide, food and packaging containers together account for almost 45% of landfill materials in the U.S. That’s not all takeout waste, but with the online food delivery market growing—it’s expected to be worth $200 billion by 2025—it’s easy to see how single use waste from food delivery adds up, especially during a pandemic that’s forcing more people to order in.

Amcor Eco-Tite R, launched in the European market, is designed to maximise shelf-life, maintain food safety, reduce food waste, and it can be recycled in polyethylene plastic recycling streams where they exist.

Amcor Eco-Tite R is a multi-layer, mono-PE packaging that maintains a high barrier ot oxygen and water vapour, even when exposed to high-moisture environments such as cooler cases and refrigerators. The company said the new shrink bag provides an alternative to PVDC packaging, which is not recyclable in mechanical or chemical recycling systems.

The concentrate in each refill packet reconstitutes, with water, to make 7.5 fluid ounces of foaming hand wash. The refills come in three formulations: Aloe-Scented, Lavender-Scented, and Sea Breeze-Scented. Each refill carton contains two packets.

According to Dial, each packet uses 95% less plastic than a single-use, 7.5-oz Dial Foaming Hand Wash bottle. In addition, the packets are recyclable through TerraCycle.

The refills also help reduce transportation-related carbon emissions by 85%, based on truck weight and product uses per truck.

The smaller packages, which have been stripped back to use as little plastic as possible, will still hold exactly the same amount of made-for-baking chocolate as before.

By optimising the range’s packaging, Nestlé has predicted that the amount of plastic used will be reduced by almost 1.7 tonnes each year.

Nestlé Confectionery Head of Marketing Joyce Tan said: “We want to reduce our use of virgin plastics. That meant challenging our existing packaging design and looking at every aspect of it to cut out any plastic we could.
