Amcor launches first recyclable shrink bag for meat and cheese

Amcor, a global leader in packaging, has today launched Eco-Tite® R in Europe, the first designed to be recycled, PVDC-free shrink bag for fresh and processed meat, poultry and some cheeses. Amcor Eco-Tite® R is designed to maximise shelf-life, maintain food safety, reduce food waste and can be recycled in existing polyethylene (PE) plastic recycling streams.* This means that more consumers will be able to recycle their meat, poultry and cheese packaging, while enjoying the benefits of longer lasting food.

Constantia Flexibles launches recyclable pharma packaging

High protection levels against moisture, oxygen and heat are important for protecting active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), to provide the patient with an effective medication. Constantia Flexibles’ goal was to meet the very high barrier properties for pharma products, while implementing the best possible sustainability standards. The result is Perpetua, a recyclable product family, based on a unique line of full PP (Polypropylene) high barrier laminates. The flexible packaging solution is available in application-tailored versions.

The past year has been one during which we saw a major wave of recycled products coming into use. Many global packaging companies announced the arrival of new designs incorporating recycled paper, recycled plastic. This year foresees the induction of fully recyclable and/or fully recycled packaging for most big brands.

Let’s elucidate some of the benefits of recycling used paper and plastic and further using the recycled product:

New packaging for toilet cleaners: less plastic and more recycled material

The material is recycled plastic from end-user households. “It is an important step for us that we have been able to increase the proportion of recycled PE in our toilet cleaners so significantly. After all, the availability of high-quality recycled materials of this plastic is still limited,” explains Ulf Timmann, Head of Global Packaging Innovation Toilet Care & Hard Surface Cleaning. “The success is at the same time a motivation. Our goal is to even further increase the proportion of recycled material in our packaging.”

Mondi enters low-white recycled office paper market with NAUTILUS® Elemental, awarded with Blue Angel certification

Mondi, a global leader in packaging and paper, launches NAUTILUS® Elemental, its first recycled office paper product for the low-white segment. The new product made from 100% post-consumer waste complements the existing wide range of premium high-white recycled papers. Low-white recycled papers are particularly popular with public authorities and institutions (e.g. schools). The new paper is now available across Europe.

Demands for increasing recycled material content in packaging and recycling in the sense of a closed product loop are gathering momentum in the industry. The question is whether such a closed product loop recycling is under environmental and economic aspects advantageous for aluminium aerosols compared to a closed material loop approach.

Düsseldorf, February 01, 2021 - The manufacturers of aluminum tubes and aerosol cans organized in the German Aluminium Association (GDA e. V.) got away with a black eye in 2020. The demand for aluminum tubes declined only slightly by around one percent, as the good demand from the pharmaceutical and food sectors almost offset the decline in cosmetic products.

Dow and Plastigaur announce the successful commercialization of collation shrink films using recycled plastic

The resin is based on low-density polyethylene (LDPE) into which post-consumer recycled (PCR) material from shrink film is incorporated without sacrificing material quality and functionality in the final application. Initially introduced in late 2019, AGILITYTM CE is the first PCR product offering from Dow. The company now has PCR product offerings in its every operating region.

Valpak to help UK recycler gain PRN accreditation

The cost of accreditation and current price of PRNs means that it is not financially viable for some of the UK’s smaller plastics recycling businesses to get accredited under the scheme. Under the terms of the agreement, Valpak will work with Aylesbury Granulation to ensure accreditation costs are covered through PRN purchases. In return, Valpak has agreed an exclusive supply deal for the PRNs produced by the company.
