Wipak reveals new sustainability brand GreenChoice

With the support of new technologies and intelligent pack design, Wipak said it is taking its strategic pledge to reduce the company’s carbon footprint to zero by 2025 to the next level.

“Choosing sustainability is not easy enough so that we can make significant progress as quickly as we need to. GreenChoice has been designed for one purpose only: to make the choice in favour of more sustainable packaging as easy as possible,” said Hery Henry, Wipak Group head of brand & sustainability.

Spreading it on too thick? Upfield’s emissions claims go under the knife

Upfield teamed up with Quantis, an international sustainability consultancy specialising in Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs), to measure its impact on the climate and the environment.

In addition to Flora margarine, Upfield makes more than 100 brands, including Rama, Blue Band, Proactiv, Becel, I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter, Country Crock and Violife. The company sells its products in more than 95 countries, has 17 manufacturing sites throughout the world and employs more than 4,100 associates.

Europe has a leg up on the U.S. in a couple of regards when it comes to recycling, namely facilities capable of recycling more types of materials and a cumulative population that, in general, recycles more. But the global effort from companies to reduce waste and encourage recycling is making a worldwide difference, and they’re doing it, in part, by making recycling more convenient.

Milliken to help sort out Digital Watermarks Project

Within HolyGrail 1.0, digital watermarks were found to be the most promising technology and a basic proof-of-concept for smart sorting was developed. HolyGrail 2.0, the second iteration facilitated by the European Brands Association (AIM), will take this initiative to the next stage by validating the concept and the technology on a semi-industrial scale.

Darnley’s Gin unveils gin in recyclable pouches

The refill pouches, which can be returned to the brand’s headquarters for recycling, are available in 70cl for each of the Darnley’s Gin Original, Spiced Gin & Navy Strength products. According to the company, the pouches derives from recycled plastic material (grade 7), “which is not only recycled but also weighs 50% less than a glass bottle of Darnley’s Gin to transport”.

The new packaging is made from sustainably sourced thermoformable paper and is dynamic enough to be printed on with either flexographic or gravure technology and finished with a heat or cold-seal adhesive.

Working closely with Nestlé, Amcor has developed this next generation packaging solution which performs when it comes to sustainability and consumer convenience, while also maintaining the highest levels of product protection.
