Ideas and Opportunities 2013 Packaging Innovations

Ideas & Opportunities 2013, the event we initiated and organized on 19th July’13, at The Leela Kempinski, Gurgaon came out to be grand success.

The event was attended by key decision makers from packaging development teams of various MNCs. The main USP of the event was - 150+ innovations from Pharma, FMCG & Cosmetics that too in a single day.

Our sole agenda of this event was to bring a paradigm shift that’s why we kept this event non-sponsored. From planning to presentation to successful completion, all the activities were executed by our (Packaging Connections) team.

Key Speakers-Sandeep Goyal, Amita Venkatesh, Chhavi Aggarwal, Pradeep Chopra

The day started with a brief introduction on global packaging scenario. This was followed by first morning sessions to bring a fresh look to Innovations and was steered to look at innovations with a more radical prospective. Post this first innovation’s presentation was delivered for Pharma packaging that has taken into account key issues like anti-counterfeit solutions and new technologies in packaging.

Noon session started with an innovative video - The New Miss India showcasing the change in lifestyle of Indians, eating and shopping habits that lead to various packaging formats thereby driving the need for Innovations. The presentation covered innovations in flexible packaging and case studies. This was followed by next innovation’s presentation on FMCG packaging with key focus on design and shelf appeal.

The evening sessions included innovation’s presentation on Cosmetics packaging with key focus on consumer convenience & value addition. Later in the evening, final presentation held on Innovation management that covered innovation metrics and its importance. This was actually the basis of activity session - “PackTonic”.

With this activity our objective was to discuss difficulties packaging team face while developing a new pack. For activity participants were segregated into groups as per their innovation category. They discussed, shared, strategized and finally presented a solution for the key difficulty areas. The session came out to be very interactive and beneficial towards finding a solution by team work.

We also had a unique content “i-pack” that showcased the ‘role of social media for packaging world’. Participants found this really interesting as they got to know various new facts on social media.

The session ended with concluding remarks from Mr. Rajiv Dhar (former director – Indian Institute of Packaging) with a suggestion bring out innovations in packaging that can actually make a difference

The event completed successfully with participants happy and satisfied with the presentations content. This was for the first time that such an initiative in packaging sector was taken wherein there were no external speakers, no sponsored presentations and no promotion of any company/product. The presentation content was selected solely by our team and thus presented a completely unbiased content to the participants.

With this, Enjoy Wonders Of Packaging

Thanks all for the appreciation. Karna sir - As rightly said 3 years look a very long time but we have kept this logically considering the facts- Like this time where we have showcased around 170 innovations and case studies. This was the result of our last three years research...similarly if we have to do it again in next year, we have to have complete research and content that is NEW TO OUR INDUSTRY but actually it is little impractical since its not very often that innovations happen in packaging. Taking your suggestions, yes we have to keep Ideas & Opportunities alive and we need our industry support for the same.

Dear Sandeep, At the outset please letme congratulate you for gran suvccess of the event and reading the report was quite apy for interesting subjects and innovation taking place in packaging. Though, here I would like to put few line of my concern which is being giving packagng especially made out fo plasics a bad name by many of the environmentalist and indivudual/NGO's without any logical reasons as a back up. The bad name is coming majorly due to our own indesciplene of disposals. Your platform should be representing and talking about this and making an representation about he better side of plastics and packaging by using this wonder material. I am also representating as Chairman Environment and Ecology with Indian Institute of Plastics ( IPI) and our major responsibility is to generate awarenes and educate about usage of Plastics. Hope in your next venture you would be looking at this side of issue of packaging. Any assistance in this regards  would be happy to be of any assistance Regards Prashant Trivedi

While I receive so many initiatives in packaging industry in India and www.PackagingConnections.com is one in many. While a major mindset change is required from end packer to  user either domestic or international,Our concept hire locally and dehirely gobally We are reday go with customer when they wany to go across to globale free them from reverse logistics. Every year Goodpack IBC fleet saves the equivalent of 4 milllion trees that need not to be harvested to make disposable IBCs. Over this period we ensure that regular maintenance is carried out on each Goodpack. It is checked, cleaned and returned to service. For customers, this reduces the need for additional handling, storage, and disposal costs that they have to directly cover. A Goodpack takes less than a minute to dis-assemble and stack ready for collection. The Goodpack is truly an ecological solution. Goodpack (GP) announced that it entered into an agreement with General Motors South Africa (GMSA) for the use of their Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBCs). This win signifies their first major win since embarking on an initiative to expand into the automotive industry. While the contract win is not expected to contribute significantly to its financials for FY12, this win places GP in an extremely beneficial position as GMSA intends to roll this initiative out to more of its component export suppliers. With a major automotive OEM under its belt and increased brand awareness, we expect GP to be able to secure additional clientele going forward. Although GP’s share price has suffered of late, we expect GP’s share price to stabilize at least in the near-term following this positive development. Reiterate BUY at an unchanged fair value estimate of S$1.70. Recently we signed up with ISRL - Indian Synthetic Rubber Limited and joint venture between Indian Oil Marubeni - Japan and TSRC - Taiwan  and other vertical like key juice juices - recently we completed for coke project and non -hazardous chemical too can be used in our IBC Major rubber client expanding SG base In another positive development for GP, its major synthetic rubber client, Germany’s Laxness, announced that it will build a second synthetic rubber plant in Singapore at a cost of €200m. The plant will produce environmentally friendly tyres and has commenced operations state of Art plant in Asia. Although this expansion will have no bearing on GP’s immediate financials, it serves to reinforce our assumptions that GP’s growth prospects remain optimistic. Lanxess currently contributes about 12% to GP’s top-line figure. We at Goodpack Limited would be known as GDPK Returnable Solution India Pvt Ltd and positioning ourselves with India ‘s growth. We have made some success in Indian auto industry has made in road providing dunnage solutions, too - look Gooppack as your partner in a innovative packaging solution. It is always a great  inspiration to know Sandeep who always believe in riding against the tides and instead of getting bogged by the circumstances always surfing  over  and making it look simple .One of such initiative has been this workshop , What ever little i have seen,  it is absolutely world class showcase at one place covering innovations across the globe. He also has managed to train the young dynamic team who have carried out this event so well .This should happen every 2 years as world is changing quite fast .It can also cover also Ways and means of improving speed of innovations from MIND to MARKET at an optimal cost with faster payback and being first time right  for FMCG product since  change cycle is very fast . How low end technology can make a difference till the bottom of Pyramid  and quality of life for them. The environment /sustainability  can be included as an important topic along with patents, design registration etc. Fantastic initiative and keep the bar raising .Regards,Maneesh Sharma ,Head Pkg.
