Bio-attributed packaging receives Eco Mark certification for first time in Japan

Finland-based Neste and Prime Polymer, a subsidiary of Japan-based Mitsui Chemicals, have developed a renewable polypropylene packaging material for a seaweed snack sold by CO/OP, a brand of the Japanese Consumers Co-operative Union (JCCU). The product, whose bio-content is attributed through the mass balance method, is the first of its kind to receive the Eco Mark certification from the Japan Environment Association (JEA).

Starbucks Becomes First National Coffee Retailer to Accept Reusable, Personal Cups at Every Visit

Starbucks Coffee Company has announced that, starting today, customers at all company-operated and participating licensed Starbucks stores across the US and Canada can use their own clean, personal cup when ordering in cafés, in drive-thrus or when ordering ahead with the Starbucks app. With the majority of Starbucks beverages enjoyed on the go, this milestone unlocks a big opportunity for customers to choose reusables and supports Starbucks’ commitment to reduce waste by 50 percent by 2030.

A Plastic Planet calls for household bins to be banned by 2030

Sian Sutherland, the group’s co-founder, says improvements to recycling collection rates cover-up “continued failure” to recycle waste. Sutherland argues that a “waste revolution” is needed where bins are banned in favour of a reuse model.

New polling conducted by A Plastic Planet revealed 74% of respondents want the UK government to force industry to create products and packaging that can be reused.

Walkers makes Sunbites HFSS compliant and reveals recycled plastic packaging

Walkers is announcing the rollout of new packaging for Sunbites range.

The new packaging is made with 50% recycled plastic. The change is set to reduce Sunbites’ use of virgin plastic by over 200 tonnes over the next two years.

The range is also now classified as non-HFSS. The reformulation follows months of trials at Walkers’ R&D centre aimed at reducing salt and sugar.

The launch forms part of PepsiCo’s health and sustainability plan.
