Tesco’s new Zespri packs help boost kiwifruit sales

New cardboard packs for Zespri kiwifruit sold by UK retailer Tesco have apparently raised consumer awareness of the brand and contributed to increased sales that were ‘beyond expectations’.

Ravenwood Packaging, which provided so-called ‘linerless’ label technology for the packs’ lid section, said the design had enabled Zespri to move away from the traditional plastic flow wrap format as it embarked on its first major supply contract with the leading British supermarket chain.

Westfalia Fruit showcased sustainable avocado-based paper and packaging innovation at Fruit Attraction 2024

Westfalia Fruit, a leading multinational supplier of avocados and other fruits, is committed to utilising all parts of the avocado across the supply chain. As an example, they’ve developed a proof of concept for paper made from 25-30 percent avocado waste, demonstrating their efforts to minimise waste and maximise resource utilisation.

ExxonMobil develops thermoformed packaging with 95 percent PE content

ExxonMobil, working with key partners, has developed a fully recyclable thermoformed packaging product featuring 95 percent polyethylene (PE) content. The Houston-based energy company says the new packaging design offers a high oxygen barrier, “excellent” optics and enhanced puncture resistance while maintaining optimized formability for hot fill and aseptic applications in the food and beverage sectors.

FDF welcomes packaging tax accounting but drinks sector criticises levy on non-draft alcohol

Jim Bligh, director of corporate affairs and packaging, said HMRC’s decision was welcome and applauded the Chancellor’s focus on a consistent, long-term approach to tax and regulation.

“As a critical advanced manufacturing sector, we stand ready to work with government to make the most of this support. Boosting investment in R&D will help the industry to create jobs, drive innovation, and grow export opportunities – resulting in a stronger industry that underpins the nation’s food security.”

Serena Williams' Wyn Beauty Debuts Today, in 'Tennis-Ball-Green' Packaging

It's official—tennis champion Serena Williams debuted her makeup line today after hinting that she may be getting into the cosmetics industry, back in 2018 when she was on the cover of Vogue.

Wyn Beauty, a play on the word "win," launched with 10 products in vibrantly colored green packaging, reminiscent of a tennis ball. 

The makeup line's name is fitting. Williams is known as the GOAT of tennis, having racked up over 23 Grand Slam wins over her career. She is widely recognized as one of the best tennis players in the world.

European container glass industry calls for rapid access to low carbon energy infrastructure

In a report published this week it also requests for customers to keep choosing and recycling glass packaging.

The report, One Destination, Multiple Pathways: How the European Container Glass Industry is Decarbonising Glassmaking, details the steps being taken to decarbonise glass manufacturing.

It states a crucial step to reach the industry's net zero goal by 2050 is rapid access to affordable, low-carbon energy.

Currently, 80% of the glass container industry's direct carbon emissions result from the combustion of natural gas.

Dow and Procter & Gamble to develop a new proprietary recycling technology targeting hard-to-recycle plastic waste

  • Vision is to recover polyethylene from hard-to-recycle waste for reuse in consumer packaging.
  • Partnership brings together both companies’ intellectual property to create a novel process with low greenhouse gas emissions footprint.

To create the new technology, the companies will combine their patented technologies and know-how in the dissolution process.

Aldar Tissue announces 30 new roles at opening of new €15 million Dublin manufacturing facility

Aldar Tissue, Ireland’s largest household and commercial tissue paper manufacturer and part of the Zeus Group, has officially opened its new €15 million, purpose-built manufacturing facility in Rathcoole, Dublin. The 100,000 sq ft facility will see the workforce at Aldar Tissue double by 2026, creating 30 new full-time jobs.

Mondi announces closure of Stambolijski paper mill following fire

Following the fire at Mondi’s Stambolijski mill (Bulgaria) on Tuesday 24 September 2024, the Group has announced that it will permanently close the mill. 

The fire caused extensive damage to the 100,000 tonne per annum brown kraft paper machine and stopped production at the site. Thanks to the swift and professional response on the day, everyone on site remained safe.
