Coca-Cola India launches 100% rPET bottle in ASSP format

The company is offering 250ml ASSP bottles in the Indian state of Odisha.

The initiative, led by Coca-Cola's bottling partner Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages, is part of the company's broader commitment to environmental responsibility and reducing its carbon footprint.

The new ASSP bottles are designed to be light, which contributes to a 36% reduction in emissions compared to traditional virgin PET packaging.

DRDO scientists develop PBAT-based biodegradable packaging

A team of scientistsat the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) developed PBAT-based biodegradable packaging, revolutionising the market with eco-friendly alternatives that decompose within three months, leaving no harmful residue. Dr.K Veerabrahmam, Scientist, DRDO and his team at Advanced Systems Laboratory ofDRDO at Hyderabad developed biodegradable packaging products using PBAT, a biodegradable polymer derived from petroleum products or plant oils.

Active packaging increases the shelf life of food products. We learnt that in part I of this series of blogs (link previous blog here). We talked about Scavengers, compounds that absorb ethylene, moisture and oxygen released by food within the food packaging that deteriorates the food faster if not controlled. 
In this blog, we will talk about Emitters. Emitters work in ways opposite to the functioning of scavengers; they diffuse from the packaging to lessen negative effects of reactions from microbial growth, oxidation and ripening.
