Reconomy switches to renewable electricity as part of its global sustainable procurement strategy to reach net zero and key climate targets

Bryt Energy, part of the Statkraft group, who are a leading international hydropower company and Europe’s largest generator of renewable energy, supplies British businesses with zero carbon, 100% renewable electricity*, sourced solely from solar, wind and hydro power.

This partnership sees Reconomy meet its target of increasing its active annual sourcing of renewable electricity from 86% in 2021 to 100% by 2028, four years early in the UK and will help Reconomy on its journey to reach net zero GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions across its value chain by 2040. The agreement was brokered by Adalta Energy and will deliver cost-savings of around 20% and will provide real-time data usage through the installation of advanced 15-minute meters.

This milestone is a key component of Reconomy’s sustainable procurement strategy, which given the scale of the business, is critical to its wider sustainability strategy and to achieving key climate targets. In 2023, Reconomy appointed a Group Procurement Director to lead and establish a strategic enterprise-wide approach to procurement including the implementation of its Sustainable Procurement Policy based on the ISO 20400 Sustainable Procurement Guidance Standard.

Reconomy has several additional sustainable procurement initiatives underway across the business. In 2024, Reconomy transitioned 80% of its diesel cars to electric / hybrid vehicles and in 2025, it plans to go further by expanding office charging points and redesigning its company car fleet to accelerate the adoption of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs). Later in 2025, Reconomy will look to recontract its gas supply and will leverage improved data insights to target further energy usage reductions.
