Berry Global’s European flexible films business has launched a new version of its high performance, patented NorDiVent form-fill-seal (FFS) film for powdered products that now incorporates up to 50% recycled plastic content.

Labelmaster, the leading provider of labels, packaging and technology for the safe and compliant transport of dangerous goods (DG) and hazardous materials (hazmat), and industry-leading plastic casing company Endural today announced a partnership in order to provide the automotive industry with sustainable, reusable plastic packaging options for transporting lithium batteries and other DG.

There's a new way to literally make recycling more attractive using a common shrink-sleeve material. The Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) has granted Responsible Innovation Recognition to Magnomer for its Magmark SS magnetizable coatings applied to PET-G shrink films for labeling of PET containers. Based on a high-volume commercial scale recyclability test for shrink sleeves, the APR recognition demonstrates that Magnomer’s novel magnetizable coatings technology is expected to be compatible with the sortation and reclaiming steps commonly used for the recycling of PET containers.

As part of its commitment to move toward zero plastic waste, the Government of Canada is proposing to develop a Pollution Prevention Planning Notice (P2 Notice) for plastic packaging that comes into direct contact with food, also referred to as primary food plastic packaging. The P2 Notice would require Canada's largest grocery retailers to prepare and implement a pollution prevention plan to meet targets to reduce, reuse, and redesign primary food plastic packaging, including recycled content targets.

The report also defines 10 Golden Rules that e-commerce and delivery platforms can implement to tackle the issue of packaging waste and remove barriers to making sustainability a scalable option for business in India. Specifically, the report addresses how businesses can reduce packaging waste, increase recycling rates, and foster innovation in regenerative materials, thereby contributing to a greener and more sustainable future.

Clean beauty brand Innersense Organic Beauty, which recently announced its Climate Neutral and Plastic Neutral certifications, has now expanded its line to include 32 oz pouches for Hairbaths and Conditioners. Each pouch uses 70% less plastic than the current 32 oz lnnersense Organic Beauty bottle and 75% less plastic than three 10 oz bottles.
 

McDonald’s is selling its apple slices using plastic packaging with “The Little Mermaid” branding on it, a move the fast-food giant is known to replicate with many major Disney films.  

A Redditor posted a picture of the packaging to highlight the irony, considering how so much plastic wrapping ends up in our oceans, writing, “One apple slice in this plastic baggie, advertising a movie about the ocean…”

The image was posted on the popular Reddit community r/Anticonsumption, which has 605k members.

This investment marks the first of its kind from Dow on the continent and expects to enable approximately 90 kilotons (kt) of plastic waste to be recovered over four years and recycled into new packaging applications. With the support from Dow and other investors, Mr. Green Africa plans to expand its operations in Kenya where it is headquartered as well as in other countries in Africa, further extending the capabilities of its recycling efforts across the continent.
