The German biogas plant specialist WELTEC BIOPOWER registers keen interest in its plant technology in Greece. In the past year, WELTEC expanded its market leadership in the southern European country by building four further projects and expanding three existing plants. Due to the great potential of organic residues to produce biogas and biomethane, especially in the north of the country, the climate-friendly energy source is playing an increasingly important role in the Greek energy transition.

Parkside provides compostable packs for Mintons

The new packs will be for the brand’s range of pulses, beans, cereals and dried fruit. According to Parkside, the packaging incorporates a duplex compostable laminate manufactured by Futamura. It is designed to “break down within 26 weeks in a home composting environment”.

Parkside added that the packs have gained full accreditation from TUV and have been tested for eco-toxicity and various other criteria against EN 13432.

Move brings innovative materials science platform to enhance Eco-friendly, pulp-based packaging of eggs, meats, and produce

Tekni-Plex has acquired assets and licensed technologies of Fibro Corporation, a Tacoma, Washington-based company that develops and manufactures innovative molded-fiber packaging. The transaction strategically expands Tekni-Plex’s materials science solutions in the fresh food marketplace to include a broader range of sustainable, pulp-based packaging solutions.

Detpak commended for McDonalds pack products

Luke Bray, HAVI’s senior manager, Quality Systems & Compliance, said that Detpak is a long-established leading supplier and its focus on providing McDonald’s restaurants with the best possible packaging products was a step above the other suppliers in 2021.

Detpak’s partnership with HAVI was forged over four decades ago when the business first started supplying packaging products to McDonald’s Australia. It has since grown to a global supply agreement to help service the world’s largest QSR, with several products manufactured locally.

Cross-industry JV brings $50m rPET facility to Vic

Set to drive a significant increase in the state’s PET recycling capacity, the plant will be built in an industrial precinct on Horsburgh Drive, with construction planned to start in early 2022 and finish in 2023.

It is expected to create more than 100 local jobs during the construction phase and 45 permanent roles once it’s complete. The capital expenditure for the project will be around $50 million.

Stretching shelf life

EMPA’s cellulose coating guarantees freshness for fruit and vegetables, with produce remaining fresh “significantly longer” than without the coating.

“In tests, the shelf life of, for instance, bananas was extended by more than a week. This significantly reduces food waste,” says Gustav Nyström, head of the Empa lab.
