Aligned with the Government of India’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) framework and the latest FSSAI regulations, UFlex’s single-pellet solution offers a seamless option for FMCG brands looking to comply with sustainability targets. Effective April 1, 2025, the new regulations require brands using Category-1 rigid plastic packaging, such as PET bottles, to incorporate a minimum of 30% recycled content by FY26.
UFlex’s solution meets the FSSAI’s requirements for Food Contact Material (FCM) recycled PET (FCM-rPET), which includes a validated decontamination process to ensure safety for direct food contact. Additionally, it meets both national and international safety standards, including approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA).
Ashish Saxena, Joint President – Packaging Films Business, UFlex Limited, commented on the launch: “Sustainability has been at the core of our innovations since day one. Our new single-pellet solution is set to be a game-changer for food and beverage brands striving to meet EPR compliance. We are also reinforcing this commitment with a ₹317 crore investment in two new recycling plants in Noida. As regulations become stricter, we aim to set the standard for responsible, scalable packaging solutions in India and beyond.”
UFlex is the first Indian company to receive USFDA approval for its ability to recycle multiple materials—recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET), recycled polyethylene (rPE), and recycled polypropylene (rPP)—for use in food packaging.
With a recycling capacity of 72,300 metric tonnes per year (MTPA), and an additional 39,600 MTPA capacity to be added soon, UFlex has built one of the industry’s most robust recycling ecosystems. To date, the company has recycled over 5 billion post-consumer PET bottles into sustainable raw materials.
In FY25, UFlex recycled 8,200 metric tonnes of mixed flexible waste, progressing toward its circular economy objectives. The company operates recycling plants in India, Poland, Egypt, and Mexico, processing a wide range of post-consumer plastic waste and is a leader in developing solutions for mixed flexible waste and post-consumer recycled (PCR) applications globally.
UFlex is India’s largest multinational in flexible packaging and solutions.
