Generation Food Rural Partners I (GFRP), LP, a fund licensed by the U.S. Rural Business Investment Program and managed by Big Idea Ventures, has announced the merger of TerraSafe Materials, Inc. and DisSolves, Inc. The new, unified company will retain the TerraSafe name and focus on delivering high-performance, sustainable packaging materials for the food industry.
“We’re incredibly proud of what the teams at TerraSafe and DisSolves have achieved over the past two years,” said Tom Mastrobuoni, Chief Investment Officer at Big Idea Ventures. “This evolution of the portfolio continues to validate the GFRP approach.”
Combining Technologies to Accelerate Market Readiness
The merger brings together TerraSafe’s advanced platform technology and DisSolves’ edible, food-grade film solutions. Together, they will expand product applications in food packaging and household cleaning while offering an alternative to petroleum-based plastics.
Scott Bolin, CEO of TerraSafe, emphasized the strategic opportunity: “Combining TerraSafe and DisSolves opens the door for new product use cases that make sustainable packaging the easier choice.”
The integrated platform will deliver dissolving, edible pods and other plastic-free, compostable formats, targeting the growing demand for waste-free packaging solutions.
Supporting a Circular Economy in Packaging
The merger is aligned with GFRP’s broader mission to commercialize innovations that promote a circular and regenerative economy. The TerraSafe brand will continue to uphold its commitment to developing materials that are “Plastic-Free is Petroleum-Free™” and home compostable, addressing both environmental and health concerns tied to plastic waste.
“For me, this merger is a culmination of the original acquisition of DisSolves by the Fund,” said Jared Razewski, founder of DisSolves and now part of the TerraSafe team. “I’m thrilled to see DisSolves formally join the TerraSafe family.”
