PFAS, known as “forever chemicals,” have been widely used in industry and consumer products worldwide since the mid-20th century. Once favored for their oil- and water-resistant properties, PFAS have recently been under public scrutiny for their inability to breakdown in the environment and because of potential adverse health effects. As a result, legislators around the world have enacted laws banning PFAS in products, including packaging, putting pressure on manufacturers across a wide spectrum of industries for coordinated action. 

There's a new way to literally make recycling more attractive using a common shrink-sleeve material. The Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) has granted Responsible Innovation Recognition to Magnomer for its Magmark SS magnetizable coatings applied to PET-G shrink films for labeling of PET containers. Based on a high-volume commercial scale recyclability test for shrink sleeves, the APR recognition demonstrates that Magnomer’s novel magnetizable coatings technology is expected to be compatible with the sortation and reclaiming steps commonly used for the recycling of PET containers.

Today, brands are under more pressure than ever to create and produce faster — and that includes their packaging. But more often than not, brands can’t simply scale their resources to meet this demand. In other words, there’s now more work to be done in less time with the same number of people.

South Korean chip manufacturer SK Hynix is considering India's semiconductor manufacturing incentive scheme and is in contact with the concerned government officials to set up a packaging facility in the country, The Indian Express (IE) has reported.

The company is primarily involved in the manufacturing of memory chips which includes computing memory, consumer and network memory, and graphics memory. SK Hynix is evaluating India from an assembly and testing destination standpoint, the report said.

Australians return 1.3 million pieces of soft plastic per day to REDCycle recycling bins but wrappers, cling wraps and plastic bags have been a problematic plastic to recycle.

With new legislation to phase out soft plastic exports taking effect only last week, this project highlights an innovative solution to the problem.

But an RMIT team of engineers have partnered with Victorian recycling organisations Replas, RED Group and SR Engineering to develop a concrete material made from lightweight recycled plastic.

Originally developed as a solution for non-contact 3D inspection of chocolate moulds in the confectionery industry, the MQCS demonstrated its versatility to be adapted for other applications such as “right product/right packaging” code matching, counting and aggregation of varied packages, monitoring the cycle life of materials handling equipment, and other 3D inspection and measurement tasks in the food industry.

Available the end of July in select stores, the gusseted bags come in 14-ounce and 24-ounce sizes and with options of sweet, tart, peeled or mixed apple slices.  The bags are resealable and are made with materials that maintain product freshness.
