Plastic production has risen exponentially in the last decades and now amounts to some 400 million tons per year– a figure set to double by 2040.

Inger Andersen, Executive Director of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), said the agreement is the most important international multilateral environmental deal since the Paris climate accord.

Recycling plays an important role in keeping plastic waste out of the environment but we know that, on its own, it won’t solve the problem.

We already use a lot of post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic to make new packaging – so we can move away from virgin material – and we’re trying to use even more. We estimate that mechanically recycled plastic has a 50% lower greenhouse gas footprint than virgin plastic.

This very prestigious award for SimpliCycle™ comes after Aptar’s recyclable flow control valve received the Best CSR/Sustainability Initiative award at the 2021 World Food Innovation Awards. The WorldStar competition is one of the major events of the World Packaging Organization (WPO) and is the pre-eminent global award in packaging. SimpliCycle was selected among 440 entries for its impact on sustainability, innovation, and high-performance dispensing.

In addition to producing its bottles using only 100% recycled, certified ocean-bound plastic, which supports the growth of global recycling rates and helps clean at-risk coastal environments, ZenWTR is enabling the removal of additional plastic waste from natural environments through its Plastic Negative Certification.
