“Learnings about how to run the material through Mars’ supply chain” would “inform a wider rollout in the year ahead”, said Mars.

The packs, which were developed in partnership with manufacturer Amcor, would “allow Mars Food to retain the shape, shelf life, functionality and high safety standards needed for its brands’ packaging while allowing the pouches to be recycled where the correct collection and recycling infrastructure exists that accepts flexible plastic”, it added.

Nevertheless, most of laminates are multi-material, combining plastic and alumiunium. As a consequence, they’re not fully recyclable.

In recent years, reducing waste is becoming a very important issue and consumers are more and more concerned about choosing an eco-friendly behavior.

In Gualapack, we made a point of “designing for recyclability”, developing more sustainable solutions for flexible packaging, our core business.

CEFLEX and partners PCEP, Petcore Europe, Styrenics Circular Solutions and MORE Recycling team up to understand the reality of today’s collected household packaging waste – a vital step forward towards a circular economy for packaging materials.

Hailed as Europe’s first in-depth analysis of its kind, the resulting data aims to reveal the amounts and types of post-consumer flexible and rigid plastic packaging, in the two main waste streams in which it is collected. Sharing the findings of the study is expected to define and deliver a circular economy for all packaging materials.

Crest, Oral-B and Blend-a-med toothpaste brands will now come in HDPE tubes recognised as recyclable in existing bottle streams by the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) in North America, and by RecyClass and Suze.circpack in Europe.

To earn the APR recognition, Albéa Group had to demonstrate that its tubes could be converted into quality post-consumer HDPE resin that could then be reused to make new plastics bottles.

UK-based JMP has supplied rice and grain processor FEI with what it describes is a “technologically advanced” recyclable and retort-ready mono-material that maintains all the mechanical properties of a conventional stand-up pouch.

JMP said the packaging technology – which is already on UK and European supermarket shelves – provides retailers and consumers with a product that is food-safe and recyclable, where current recycling streams allow.

It added that the pouch size, shape and function remain the same as the previous pack versions.
