Evian Sparkling is now available at Tesco stores, with both packaging formats recyclable – a 33cl aluminium can and a 100% recycled one-litre PET plastic bottle.

Kellogg’s is trialling fully recyclable packaging for its boxes of Corn Flakes, with the replacement of the plastic liner for paper.

The food giant has said it would prefer plastic liners to be accepted in kerbside recycling but the trial of the paper alternative in a small number of Tesco stores from January “ensures we have an alternative”.

While the outer card packaging of the company’s cereals boxes are recyclable, the plastic inner liner is not widely accepted in kerbside recycling.

Australian supermarket chain Woolworths has replaced single-use plastic picnicware with an extended range of more sustainable items in all its stores across the country.

The move is part of the retailer’s plan to remove around 2.1 million kilograms of plastic a year.

The extended sustainable picnicware range includes wooden cutlery certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), as well as paper cups and plates.

Woolworths is also providing bowls and plates made from sugarcane pulp.

French software company Dassault Systèmes has partnered with Ardagh Group and consulting firm EXXERGY to conduct virtual trials of lighter glass bottles.

The collaboration project will focus on research and development for an external coating to help reduce the weight of glass bottles and increase their strength.

The lightweight glass bottles will also remain fully recyclable.
