As many of you are aware, PET beverage containers are often wrapped with PET-G (or sometimes polyvinyl chloride aka PVC) shrink-sleeve labels. The problem is that the labels are contaminants in the recycling process. They have a density higher than water and can’t be separated from PET flakes during the sink-float separation step of the recycling process. Thus, they contaminate the recycled PET stream and reduce the quality of recycled PET (rPET).

Dr. Rick Michelman, currently Chief Technology Officer & Executive Vice President (EVP), Americas and Printing & Packaging, will become President & CEO. He has been with the company for more than 25 years, acquiring broad operation and market knowledge by serving in many organizational roles, including product development, technology management, business development, regional leadership, and business segment leadership. Furthermore, his background as a chemist gives him an understanding of the sustainable solutions Michelman continues to innovate globally.

AIPIA returns to the virtual stage for its two remaining Congresses for 2021. Both are carefully focused, covering the highly important and topical issues of Supply Chain Solutions (16th September) and the whole spectrum of Digitization: Connected Packaging & Sustainability (2nd November.) Each will address how these issues are impacting on current Smart Packaging development and use.
